R56 Floppy stick no reverse

Floppy stick no reverse
Had this little fella pop off the end of one of my six speed manual shift cables recently, causing the linkage to come undone. Clutch had recently been changed. As a result, a very floppy shift lever that you could still get into a gear, but not reverse. Luckily, it landed on top of the bell housing and just sat there until I fished it out with a magnet.
Kind of disappointing that a single missing clip can disable a car. If I hadn't found it, a tow to the dealer, a $150 diagnostic charge and ??? to pop in a new one.
Dealer is providing 2 new clips at no charge. Easy to install if you have a strong light.
Real OEM says the part number is 25118609053 or older pn 25112754813, depending on vin and build date.
Anybody else have this issue?

It clips onto a groove in the end of the shift rod. Pouring outside, picture later.
Because I found it sitting on top of a flat spot on the bell housing, I'm beginning to think the tech left it there and forgot to put it back on and it took a couple of weeks of driving for the shift rod to work its way out of the linkage. I did have some difficulty getting in to some gears weeks after the clutch job.
Statistically it would be almost impossible for the part to pop off and not be lost forever to the cosmos
