LSD w/ '07?

Is there any information regarding LSD availability for the '07 model? Could we assume that now they have the technology for the '06 model they'll just carry it over?

LSD is probably the best thing going for the '06.

It's hard to imagine them dropping it as an option, but then, BMW dumped the LSD from the 3-series in the mid 90's in favor of an electronic traction control, so who knows, crazier things have happened!

But you're right, I bought my Cooper in '04, and IF they would have had an LSD option on the '04 Cooper S, I would have bought the S instead. The LSD, to me, IS that big of a deal.

MINI already offered all-season electronic traction control (ASC) long before they offered LSD. I doubt they would get rid of LSD now, unless of course they offered AWD instead (hmmm, tasty).

I guess the question to ask is there one available for the new transmission? I believe the current LSD is used by the Focus and the Mini. Most companies won't tool up for a new single car application.

Exactly. I'd be surprised if there was an LSD for the new transmission. BMW/MINI has been mum on the subject, while touting other dubious features. I take that as a No.

I have an '06 with LSD & DSC..Dynamic Stability Control.

If the DSC is on and you take off & try to rev it up to about 6800 in first, when you go to second it just bogs...bad....but you can turn DSC off and let it rip. If your already up to a higher speed driving/cornering and not trying to redline it through the gears and DSC is on it does help handling & cornering...If your at the AX track though, turn it off for complete self control.

I hope it is available for '07 models. If it is available, get it, because my MINI is nimble, handles better & tighter than anything I've ever driven

I don't know how much part the LSD plays in the picture since I have not driven one without it. With the DSC off I can tell a difference in that I have complete control & it's amazed me at the speeds I can take tight twisties at...and stay in my own lane....a BIG plus!

Might hold off releasing LSD for a few years, keep demand up beyond the first '07s and '08s. If I was a betting man, I would say no..?
