No supercharger whine? That's OK by me, I like the sound.

I'd like to see a 'from the backseat video of the speedo & out the windshield' to go with that sound file.

Me likey Me likey!

I love that loww deep sound. I'm sure gonna miss the S/C whine though. It almost sounds like a mustang or somthing along those lines.

I like it!

I'm not convinced that's the sound from a 1.6L 4 banger. The quick rev-matches at the end sound like they're from a Shelby or a Z06 with lighter racing flywheels.

Heh.. has nobody in here heard a V8 before? It sounds exactly like the clip. I think it's blatantly obvious this clip is NOT the new Mini. If you've watched the few videos circling the net of the 2007 Mini, it sounds rather uninspired. It sounds like the old Mini without the supercharger. Nothing more, nothing less.

I wonder if this sound is the complete tricked-out factory JCW engine with sport exhaust. If it isn't, think what it will sound like with the extra whistles and bells! I like the sound. It sounds like a BIG engine with tons of power. All that from a 1.6? Yikes! I'm with you guys in wondering if this sound clip is from something heavier like a Porsche Turbo or Corvette. But if it's real, WOW! I still love my '06 MCS and wouldn't think of trading it.....well maybe in '08. I like even numbers.

There's no way that's a 1.6L 4 cylinder. I don't even hear any turbo whistle, though there is burble (backfire) when they go off the throttle. It sounds like a Vette.

Sounds like it was stolen from the movie "Bullitt".

There is no way on God's green earth that was a 1.6 four cyl. It sounds better than SM's mustang on Bullet LOL . Not buying it , sorry

Does kind of. I actually watched that movie again a couple hours ago. Always love the chase.

If that is really what the new Mini sounds like then I just may get the new Mini just for that. That is one killer soundtrack for a 4-cylinder engine.

This is the same audio as featured on the Mini International site (if you click on the "Driving Agility" tag) for BOTH the Mini Cooper AND Mini Cooper S... so based on this (both cars in the two clips sounding EXACTLY the same) I would say it's a safe bet it's not the actual sound of the new 1.6 turbo (though I wish it was... sound really beefy!).

Not unless a couple of the gear changes were faked.

You'd swear that Bullitt had more than 4 forward gears given the number of gear changes in the long chase.

Do not believe everything you hear.

There is a JCW soundclip on the MINI JCW popup window. It sounds nothing like the thing in real life (much more muted exhaust).

Well, as I said before, it's the sounds like the same sound Mini International is playing when it runs the little cartoon-ish "Driving Agility" video... with a little skid track thrown in at the end. Which definately makes me sceptical.

...on the other hand...

Watching the video on www.motoringfile.com (a few articles down on the main page)... there are a few seconds of video in the 4-minute clip with sound in the cabin of the S car, along with a couple medium-speed passes of both the Cooper and Cooper S (both with pretty good audio).

If you listen close... THEY DO SOUND KINDA' LIKE THAT!!! BOTH the Cooper AND the Cooper S have a really deep, throaty sound with a little gurgle! Sounds hot! Granted, the sound clip alone sounds like the noise is amplified and processed quite a bit. Almost like the engine is on a dyno with just the headers attached. Throw in some turbo noise up top along with the pop off valve when wringing it out and the S going to sound like a little beast!

Wha? Sounds like the current Mini without the supercharger whine... I don't get how it sounds like a V8 like these other clips.

It is getting through the gears impressively fast......if it is deception, it doesn't matter unless you are buying based on that soundtrack...... we'll see what happens when they show up at the dealers then we will know if that is real or not..... it is hard to believe that is a stock exhaust note from a company that dialed down the 03 suspension because of complaint s of a harsh ride..... but we shall see
