Well this is encouraging...and may wind up bringing a whole new group of MINI owners into the fold. We'll see how those numbers shake out in the real world, but overall, it seems a good thing. Better furel economy is one of the reasons I've always preferred motoring in a Cooper.

To be honest the way that I came to want a MINI was because of gas mileage. I was only getting about 17mpg in my truck when I decided to sell it and get something more fuel effiecient.

At first I looked at the Scion XA becuase the EPA numbers were about 40mpg, but my wife finally convinced me to look into the MINI's and I am glad she did. I was even able to convince her that I needed a MCS after I read that the fuel economy was supposed to improve so much from the 06's.

I realize that I am not going to get anywhere near the EPA numbers, but I am sure I will at least get 9-10 miles more a gallon than I was getting on my truck.

I just wish February would hurry up and get here!

Yeah this is good news. My RX-8 gets about 20mpg, so I'm looking to do a little better with my next car.

Watch out for UK posters. The UK (imperial) gallon is 4.55litres whereas the US gallon is only 3.8litres.

UK gallons Rec?

This figure is disappointing unless you are doing mainly town driving. My mkV Golf (1.6 petrol) averages 40mpg no problem with about 50:50 town/mway.

32.1mpg now... that's mainly short runs but it also includes some long runs, but with the aircon on constantly.

No thanks. I had a '80 Rabbit once that was nothing but trouble. It soured me on VWs for life.

I'm way, way too happy with my MINI!

Part of the mileage increase has to be the 6th gear. I know my Cooper would do better on long hauls with one more gear.

Tooooo right Rec

I wonder how that difference happened. The US pint is also smaller than our's - that really is a problem where beer is concerned

Automatic mileage estimates

News release is about 2 weeks old. I'm curious. The news release quotes epa figures for the automatic transmissions as preliminary. I ordered an 07 MC with auto which is finished building and about to board a vessel for its voyage here. I'm assuming it has a window sticker quoting final EPA estimates for the auto, but no word yet other than the 'preliminary' numbers quoted by the press release. Also nothing on the EPA site for mini for 07 yet either. Anyone here different?

My R56 MCS is averaging 37.7 over its 800 miles. A lot of this has been around town so I pretty pleased with the mpg.

R53 2005 build 50k miles 33mpg on troubled LSD and clutch assembly with dirty oil and black air filter. Just cleaned the filter oil pan clutch and tranny getting replaced within the next month I don't expect less than 35 when is all set up. So subtract SC pull on the drivetrain drop a few LBS and smooth out the aero and 40 mpg should be right about where a properly broken in engine should settle into fairly quickly.

I see lots of "mpg" on this forum. Is it British mpg or US mpg?

the first post has a link to a Press Release.. Those are US figures from the EPA.

So 40mpg on highway MC's are what were rated.

Cool! Given my average commute... I can now rationalize away about $40 out of my monthly car payment!
