Well this is encouraging...and may wind up bringing a whole new group of MINI owners into the fold. We'll see how those numbers shake out in the real world, but overall, it seems a good thing. Better furel economy is one of the reasons I've always preferred motoring in a Cooper.
To be honest the way that I came to want a MINI was because of gas mileage. I was only getting about 17mpg in my truck when I decided to sell it and get something more fuel effiecient.
At first I looked at the Scion XA becuase the EPA numbers were about 40mpg, but my wife finally convinced me to look into the MINI's and I am glad she did. I was even able to convince her that I needed a MCS after I read that the fuel economy was supposed to improve so much from the 06's.
I realize that I am not going to get anywhere near the EPA numbers, but I am sure I will at least get 9-10 miles more a gallon than I was getting on my truck.
Interesting info...I was quite surprised there are only 80 dealers in the US for MINI...I gues I'm pretty luckey I live in Chicago...There are 3 within 25 miles
News release is about 2 weeks old. I'm curious. The news release quotes epa figures for the automatic transmissions as preliminary. I ordered an 07 MC with auto which is finished building and about to board a vessel for its voyage here. I'm assuming it has a window sticker quoting final EPA estimates for the auto, but no word yet other than the 'preliminary' numbers quoted by the press release. Also nothing on the EPA site for mini for 07 yet either. Anyone here different?
R53 2005 build 50k miles 33mpg on troubled LSD and clutch assembly with dirty oil and black air filter. Just cleaned the filter oil pan clutch and tranny getting replaced within the next month I don't expect less than 35 when is all set up. So subtract SC pull on the drivetrain drop a few LBS and smooth out the aero and 40 mpg should be right about where a properly broken in engine should settle into fairly quickly.
