New turbo Mini S and turbo timer?

Does anyone know if the new Mini S will need a turbo timer?
Some turbo cars do, some dont... but it should tell you in the
user manual.

Thanks,

I believe the automotive world has successfully weened itself off of aftermarket turbo timers. The MINI continues to cool itself after you shut down.

Really? Does the turbo cool by engine's oil? If so, after shutting off then
does the pump continue to run? I believe, some manufacture drain off
the oil from turbo when the engine is off. But for my Evo, the manual
says to cool off turbo with engine on after driving with full engine load
for an extended period of time.

I would suggest that after extended full on driving that the turbo be allowed to cool. Anything spinning at 200,000 rpm is going to be a litlle hot. This applies to any car.

From MINI's original press release about the Prince in Dec. 2004:
"To prevent excessive build-up of heat in the oil- and water-cooled turbocharger after the engine has been stopped, an additional electrical water pump starts automatically as soon as the car comes to a standstill, dissipating any excess thermal energy from the system."

It's in the last paragraph of the release.

I hear you there. DB from White Roof Radio was talking about his electric fan not shutting off after he powered down at the tire shop and it ran until the battery was discharged. Granted all things wear out, but if that was the sensor that tells the water to circ after shutoff, you'd soon have a turbo that's not getting it's after-spanking rubdown. Smart cars are cool, but the more tech we get the greater the chance for all this gear to kablooie. And unfortunately, this tech doesn't come with much fault tolerance. Just some fault sensors to rat out some of the bad components. My greatest fear with the Prince engine is that the "Smart" oil pump gets mentally challenged one day and results in a spun bearing.

After the test drive today I noticed a small 'hissing' sound coming from the engine. The sales guy said it was the engine oil being circulated through the engine to cool down the turbo. So yes this is true.

After owning a turbo charged car I still give it a minute to cool down after giving it a good running. Its habit and Im a bit on the paranoid side for reasons Karl mentioned.
