R56 ALTA is so Mellow! (R56 update)
#32
Adam, great to see ALTA is going nuts getting R56 mods out on the market. By this time tomorrow you'll have surpassed the lazy butts over in Europe that have been sitting on their hands with stock R56's since November!
Great to see the rear sway bars are the same between gen's. Are the fronts the same too? They look pretty much identical on the RealOEM site.
My push: Hurry up and get Hydra to do a standalone for the R56 [or market a MegaSquirt adaptation, or develop one yourself!] The alternative would be to source out software ECU flashing so advanced users can tune their own cars instead of suffering with pre-packaged ECU flashes.
Thanks!
Ryan

RYAN: We are on it! Any interchanges will be publishied shortly. The geometry in the back is different on the R53 vs the R56 but VERY similar. Also, we have some new ECU stuff we are working on as well. No promises yet, but we will of course keep everyone posted.
MotorMouth: TRUE! Sorry for the updates! ;-)

Is there any tests or reviews on the various suspension components for the standard MC available? I am getting a standard MC with standard suspension, but will want to be changing the suspension around almost immediately.
Correct me if I am wrong, but if your rear sway bar is too stiff as compared to the front suspension, will rear tire lift be an issue? This is my first Mini, so it may not be an issue at all.
Are there any recommendations on which components should be swapped out to keep the handling well balanced? Just asking.

Reelsmith: We took a bulk of the engine apart late last week and thus; no running motor, no sound. Should have things back together later this week.
PGT: Happy to help. Please post R53 question's here:

Skuzzy: Thank you for your patience. We will have more information on the suspension upgrades for the std and S models as they are developed. So stay tuned.
On the question about wheel lift the simple answer is it depends. A stiffer bar isn't always directly correlated, but a lack of endlink or trailing arm travel can also play into it. But yes the likelihood does go up with a stiffer bar. To remain balanced, pieces may need to be added in groups as well as an alignment to correct ot alter settings to match the new pieces. A quality alignment shop can make excellent suggestions.
Thanks again for asking! Congrats on the new car. I hope you receive it soon!
