Why isn't this thread a sticky? I just placed my order, I am completely impatient and I need to look at as many Mini's as I can. Looking for this thread is pointless, it is one of the most viewed in any forum. Mod's come on let me get my fix as fast as I can!
Back after two months at the body shop (actually, about two weeks of that was at a salvage yard the insurance took it to). New front bumper, intercooler, driver's door, windshield, several rear suspension parts, and paint on three fifths of the car. I think it looks as good or better than new. Autobahn Body & Paint did a superb job. They do warranty paint work for MINI of Mountain View, and at least one of them owns a MINI. License plate needs to be replaced.
Nice wheels Robin. I didn't know newer Slipstreams had a version with a polished edge. What size/kind of tires?
Yup, "Royal Gunmetal" is for the polished lip.
The tires are Pirelli PZero Nero M&S 205/55ZR16. They are supposed to be fairly quiet, without giving up too much in grip. They may be a little less noisy than the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 20545ZR17 I have on another set of wheels, but the grip is not nearly as good. I'll probably go with something else, next time.
205 is the stock width for 17" wheels. 16" wheels usually get 195. I had a choice between 205/55 and 205/50. One is 0.4" larger than stock O.D. of 24.5" and the other 0.4" smaller. That is about 2% difference in revs per mile. So, not much change in effective gearing or speedometer readout. My speedo still reads a little optimistic, but less so than with stock O.D. These are everyday wheels for comfort. So, I went for the taller sidewall.
