It's 35% on the driver and passenger windows and 20% on the rest.

Yes it is illigal. However, you can get a medical waver when you get your tint done, and if you get that signed by a doctor for reasons such as sun senstivity, sensitive eyes and so on, and then go back to the DMV and stand in the registraion line for them to copy it and put it in their system, it then becomes legal. And if a cop runs my plates now, it will now have a notice in the system that my tint is legal, but I do keep the signed waver in the car just in case.
My dad just so happens to be a doctor....
