How to name your car?
I realize this is premature since I haven't yet purchased a Mini although I'm hoping this is the year (telescoping steering wheel finally!) I feel that what you name your car is important to it's personality and may add a little bit to your motoring experience.
How have you decided what to name your car(s)?
Did you name them before you purchased the car or not until you drove it off the lot?
Did you squeeze the name onto it's license plate?
Also, if you happen to have a photo to go with your car that would be helpful.
Very important! Thanks!

Working name: Precocious [License: precoshs]
1. Characterized by or characteristic of exceptionally early development or maturity (especially in mental aptitude); as, "a precocious child"; "a precocious achievement." Or, "a precocious Mini, that silly little car with the fast engine and racing stripes!"
I'll see if it fits the name.

Zippeee! (rhymes with Yippee), extra "e" and spelled with an ! Can't fit it on a license plate, though--Texas only allows 6 letters.
I named her before I even ordered Zippeee! but that's partly because I've been wanting a red MINI for decades, ever since I used to watch them race in the 60's. Just seemed to be a natural name for some reason!

Still liking Grendel, although my wife points out that Grendel, the monster in Beowulf, was killed. But I like the name anyway. Grendel's tastes were rather plainish. What's for breakfast? Couple Danish.
'07 MCS CR/W (getting used to the feel and finding it hard to stay under 4500 RPM during break in)

Mine is named Maddy. How I arrived at her name isnt as interesting as the others but since I decided that I will not be having anymore kids and I only have a son, my new car inherited the name I would have given a girl, short for Madelyn.
I ordered a custom plate that should arrive from the DMV anyday now and it says 'ONRA1LS'

I'm a HUGE Disney fan, so my MCS has already been given the name Minnie. My soon-to-be Mini is red with a white roof, the famous colors of a certain female mouse
My license has already been ordered and reads MNI(HEART)MKY. I don't know if this is in every state, but in California you are able to order a license plate with symbols on it.
I have amassed quite a collection of goodies that will be decorating my precious Minnie: countless Disneyland antenna *****, a Disneyland license plate cover, a Mickey window cling, Minnie and Mickey stuffed animals, etc. I think you get the point, guys. In a month or so, Lauren's going to be driving the Disney mobile

Pearl got her name after a good 6-8 months of motoring. After seeing Pirates several times, and having the music come on when I was motoring a few times and it just felt right. So it stuck and she's been happy since. Been planning more and more related mods in addition to theones I've already done.
She told me the name in a sense. You've got to listen for it and watch for it and one day the stars will algin and you'll just know its right. Every car has a character to it. Every car has a gender to it (and I'm not talking chick car type stuff either)

I think picking the name is the hardest part!
...and trying to fit it on a license plate.
Idealy I would like to get my car's name on the license.
I've been going back n forth with these 3 names.
My mini should arrive in a month, so I have a little more time:
1. Mr. Smalls
2. Shorty (My shorty)
3. Meani Me
I like all your names and your reasons for picking them. All so original!!
waiting for...
Laser Blue/White MCS
White stripes
Premium & Sport Pkgs
White turn signals
Rear fog lights
Web spokes
Center arm rest
Leatherette
Hi-Fi sound system

DOPAMINE
no real crazy story behind it. i drove the car and got a euphoric sensation.
someone later pointed out that they thought i was trying to abbreviate DOPE *** MINI to fit on my plate. its a stretch...i know but, the thing is, i have heard that about 6 times already and the plates have been on the car for about 6 months, 3 of which the MINI has been in the garage. within all that time one person has guessed why i named the MINI Dopamine....go figure.

Munchie
Munchie was easy, my cat. He was a tiny stray found in a trash can of a fast food place on I-85 outside of Raleigh. He was extremely sick and we thought he might not make it. He was also very tiny. (malnourished and growth stunted.) It took a few months of nursing him to health, he made it. He stayed pretty tiny, but put on a hefty midsection and with his short legs has a 'bulldog stance." He may be tiny but he has a heart of a lion.

Mine started out - before delivery - as Lil' Blue. Named after a family baby blanket.
Yikes.
I soon realized THAT wasn't cool - or manly. And it didn't fit the car's character once I started driving -
I had a '77 TR7 back in the 80's - this car is kinda coming full circle for me from a string of Hondas and big American cars back to the little British (hey, at least it's assembled in Britain) Sports Car. Then I was shocked to find that BLIMEY was available as a plate in NC. Ka-ching. Sold. Blimey it is. And it has been the perfect name for this car...
