R56 Best R56 mileage...

So for the first month I averaged about 31mpg. I then reset the average and tried to see how high I could keep it with a mix of city and highway driving. After a week (and over 200 miles), I was at 36.7 mpg!!! The downside is that it required me to drive conservatively (coasting to red lights, not slamming the foot on the gas on green lights, cruise control on the highway etc) - which is freakin hard in a MCS! I think at one point I was passed by a Prius (ok, just kidding that's NEVER happened)
So - it is possible to get really really good gas mileage but is it worth it? Admittedly I like a good challenge and so it wasn't that bad while I was doing my experiment but when I decided the experiment was over it was great to get the sensation of acceleration again!!! Oh, and my mpg only dropped down to 34.9 by the time I needed the tank refilled - so not bad!

Is funny... The Tahoe barely fit in the one-car garage it lived in. The Mini could almost fit in the Tahoe, and could just about do a u-turn in the same garage... haha...
Love my Mini!
If you see an 07 MCS - Red with black roof on the 405 in OC, give me a wave!

you've definiately quoted the worst gas mileage to date for an r56.
bad enough that you created an account to post it.

With about 1500 miles on the car the worst I've gotten is 27.7 and the best has been 31.5 and this is "kinda" mixed. To get this figure I used the trusty calculator, but I must say the cars computer is pretty close, well sometimes it is anyways. I say kinda because the road I take to work is a 3 laner on both sides with large median and the speed limit is 50 mph and its kinda long inbetween lights. After that its your average stop and go distance between lights. One thing though, like many others here, its hard to drive the car normal, especially in my case because I've got an exhaust and intake mod done to my car I'm going to Grand Rapids this Thursday (2 1/2 hour drive on the freeway), so I'll see how the mileage is there. I plan on using the cruize and NO sport button on the way there and on the way back, cruize and sport button ON, just to see.

A number of weeks ago we went to Washington DC from our home in the NY suburbs. We traveled the length of NJ, DE, and MD into the DC area. Remarkably, we had 41.7 mpg on the trip down. Car had 1200 miles on it, and no traffic on the way down. We have never set the OBC since delivery and we have had 35.6 mpg overall since we got the car. Wife uses it to commute to work and has some days with bumper to bumper traffic. We also had very bad traffic returning from DC so that is figured into the grand total equation.
Needless to say, every opportunity I have to drive "her" car, I do; even if it's to go get her gas. Because of work, I drive a Subaru, but if MINI had an awd model, I'd trade-in in a heartbeat.
I've been driving since 1969 and have owned a few radical cars, including the very first Mazda RX-3 and a Mazda Cosmo, both w/ rotary engines, but nothing compares to driving the MINI. Whatever safety concerns I had in the beginning (sharing the road w/ 80,000 trucks) went out the door first time I got into one at the dealer.
R56 MCa BRG/W NAV dsc etc.

I have 2000 miles. I always use the sports switch. Mix of suburban and highway (some stop/start) and I have been getting mid 30mpg per tank. As weather warms up, I find it's not that difficult to average 37 mpg per tank. And that's with showing off to annoying Lexus drivers who think their cars can handle.
I find the OBC comuter's estimates of average mpg very close to method of miles driven/gallons to fill. (Side note related to OBC not consumption is that the range estimate is wildly non-linear)

I filled up my tank for the first time last night! I waited for it to go to 2 bars and heard the ding a few times. Doing the math, I got 28.3 mpg on my MCS Auto. The OBC said 29.8. It steadily went up as I drove haven't started at 23 pmg or so when I got the car with 7 miles on the odometer.
Pretty mixed driving, 20 miles each way to work with only 3 miles of that on the city streets. But, I took it on many short trips to the market, to visit people to spread the good word of the MCS. Any reason to drive, I found it. I think after a few more tanks, I'll steadily avg 30-31 mpg with mostly conservative driving with the occasion highway straightaway stretch, just to let the variable valves and the turbo to breathe a little. If it can get any more that, it'll be all gravy.

The computer does show the average speed of the tank as well. If I just blurt out I am getting 22.3MPG and did not tell you my average speed is 19.1MPH you might think soemthing is borked up really good.
I seldom get out of 4th gear and spend most time in 3rd gear. I will have had Romi a week tomorrow and have 68 miles on her! WOOHOO! At this rate she will be broken in by labor day weekend! WOOT!
My computer shows my 15,000 mile service interval to occur sometime in 2010. Good thing I bought the 4 year warranty.
