We have no way of knowing what you drive. With those numbers I assume a Cooper?

Was doing only 24.8 mpg with my 06 MINI GP (from 6 miles to 3,133 miles). Thought it was a little low and when I saw the dealer window sticker, the emissions was a lot higher then normal for this size of a vehicle. Started using Ethos Fuel Reformulator, which helped reduce emissions, at 3,133 miles and improved fuel economy as well to 28.3 mpg. I currently have 4,564 miles in the car and drive 90% city, 10% highway. Average now is 28.3 with a range of 26.8 to 30.1 depending on who is driving, or what driving conditions. Only type of fuel ever used was 93 (premium).

All records were actual (miles divided by gallon). OBC was fairly close for the average...reporting 24.3 during the first 3.1K miles and 28.0 during the last 1.5K miles.

Two tanks in my mcs 6sp: 774 miles. 25.8 gallons = 30 mpg. OBC said something like 31.5-32.0 mpg. Roughly 80% freeway, 20% city

Note: I vote for the proposed rule "if you quote mpg, include if you are quoting the OBC reported mpg or if you are quoting real mpg =number of miles divided by gallons"

We are averaging somewhere around 35.1mpg in our non-S automatic! Very happy with that mileage, helps to ease the pain of needing premium fuel.

I am quoting real, U.S. gallons. Miles traveled / gallons filled up. Not the ECU reading.

still getting great mileage?

Here it is the end of summer, hot as hell and we are burning 10% cornmash in here N. Texas. At the 9K mile point, Raj is getting 31 MPG combined almost no matter how I drive.
All is good.

I just (hand) calculated 36.1 mpg today. 80% city/20% freeway, low 70s temps, air on.

My average over a 6, 500 (hand) road trip was 35.3. OBC reads 35.1 A low of 31mpg on the trip to a high of 39mpg. Hotter than blazes, high interstate speeds, and air all the way.

I'm a mighty happy camper

Good MPG

The MPG computer on the MINI how accurate is it? I reset my MPG at my house and once I reached work 23 miles later It said 54.1 Avg MPG.

I have a R56 MCS 6speed Manual
Sport mode ON
currently around 1400 Miles on car.
Windows were rolled down.
AC off.
Mostly in 6th gear.
Back road driving mostly flat some small downhills 45pmh avg 50 w/ other cars in front.
Highway 65 mph I was avg 70 w/ traffic.
Total of 23 miles.

when driving on the backroads avg MPG was about 40 and then on the highway it was about 46-54 it varied as I hit the gas etc.

How accurate is it if it its FREAKIN AWEOSM CAR!!!!!

you have your language set to British English instead of American English - that messes up the calc - because it's using imperial gallons which are smaller than us gallons.

That doesn't seem accurate. Fill up your gas tank, reset the odometer, drive to work and back, refill the tank and do the math and see how that compares. That will give you an idea of whether that's accurate or not.

Well, it doesn't seem accurate, even if you were set for imperial (UK) gallons, that 54.1 would be 45.1 mp(us)g...

BUT... The OBC has to use averaging to get the mpg... it will be FAR more accurate the more miles you drive. Most MPG is lost when idling (like at a stop light, that is 0 mpg!) and accelerating from a stop (8-12 mpg), and accelerating in general...

note the OBC shows the maximum mpg possible at 99 mpg (like when coasting)? This is because the engine is using very little (or zero) gas, yet the car is moving... That would be X miles per hour / 0 gallons per hour = infinity... So the computer simply uses 99 mpg (instead of the impossible to calculate infinity)... bottom line, the computer (OBC) has to average these different driving/mpg cases. Your 54mpg is probably simply because you were on a short trip (23miles) and didn't idle, did a lot of coasting (99mpg or very high mpg) and not a lot of stop and go or accelerating up and down....

Tell us what you get for an entire tank-average! Then compare actual miles divided by how much it takes to fill up, and compare to the OBC reading.

I've been getting 30 mpg on my S, OBC has read 31-32.5mpg (not bad, about 5% high)

So far on the 2 full tanks i've run through i've used 24.1 gal to go 762 miles. Mixed driving 50% city, 50% crowded freeway, so i think this is pretty good for a car that's not broken in yet. This hand calcs out to 31.6 mpg.

The OBC reading was 32.8.

Of course, this was after i switched it back to US English LOL. i was REALLY happy with my OBC mileage until about 300 miles ago when i realized it couldn't be that high. I guess when i was configuring the computer i wasn't thinking that the gallons would be measured differently, more hoping that Winston would start speaking with an English accent (he didn't :( )
