I paid $250 through the dealer... was quoted $216 locally. Both offered a five year warranty... but I know where the dealer will be in the next five years so I look at it as $34 worth of warranty insurance, I guess.

Wow. That's a good price! Any warranty or guarentee with that?

-simple adhesive (don't do it!)
-wet application (better - can actually be as good as baked on, if applied and cured correctly)
-baked-on or heat application tint (best - similar to a wet application, but a heat gun is used to adhere the tint to the glass and set up a really nice bond between the two)

There is definitely a big difference in quality between tint brands. The difference is resistance to scratching and durability. Diamond is very high quality and what we just went with. I've found Over the years of tinting over 20 cars, the range should be $100 - $200 max for most normal sized vehicles. Just make sure the quality is high and ask to see a job they've done to check for air bubbles and how well they trim the edges. 35% on the sides and 20% on the back is the usual and the max allowed in most states.
They also have several colors and some have a slight tone of silver, blue, or bronze shades to them. Many of these have metal in them and if you are going to use a V1 or other radar detector the tint can interfere with your radar detector's effectiveness:
Here is a picture of how ours came out with diamond with 35% sides and 20% rear:

I had my windows tinted last Monday for $150.00 and its a quality, metallic type tint. I went with 35% instead of my usual "safe" 50% that I usually go with because its illegal here in Michigan to do anything to the sides, what the sun doesn't shine here, I don't understand tint laws
