R57 Overheating issue 2010 Mini S Convertible

Overheating issue 2010 Mini S Convertible

My 2010 Mini Cooper S convertible has 60K and has ran like a top since I purchased it a few months ago. I recently replaced the plugs following a CEL for a random misfire in cylinder 1 and 3. The car again ran great but I showed a temp. warning light (yellow) which promptly went away. The next day a red temp warning light lit up and I sent the car to a German specialty mechanic. I have yet to receive a diagnosis but I suspect that the the thermostat housing and unit are bad. I did have minimal coolant trails on the the bottom of the transmission housing during my last oil change. Any thoughts or ideas on the potential cost?

stat and coolant run about $170.00 + book labor appx 2.5 hrs.

Coolant trails in that vicinity usually indicate a thermostat failure, oil filter housing seal leak, or leak from the coolant line from the coolant expansion tank.

Have the system pressure tested to verify where the leak is, as well as report with codes.

We usually have customers in and out the door for around $300 for a thermostat replacement.

Yea that sound like the thermostat, about 150 for a genuine thermostat , if the shop can get them , currently on back order https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/11537534521/. Then the labor rate ( 2hrs ) and coolant 18$.
