Edit:
Ok, curiosity got the best of me and I checked. Good news is my coupe is booked on the Independence II departing tomorrow! The 15th is not that far away.

Congrats Jdurdick and Tcassa!! All three of us will be motoring soon!!
@Officemaven: Irvine Mini has been fantastic. The group is really focused on the customer. I will take pics on Sunday or Monday. But...just to wet your whistle...I am creating a little movie to document the proces. Still a bit rough on the 1:49 minute intro and lots of details to add, but for your (and anyone elses) entertainment:

jbs111,
We've been dealing with Christian Banks over at Crevier MINI for six years now and he has always been great to us (as has Crevier as a whole). We've bought five MINIs from Christian thus far and recommend him to everyone who asks us about our MINIs. Thanks for the heads-up on CJ though. I'm sure he's great too.

Maybe our two cars are side by side.....on the Independence (which is an ARC vessel -- a Wallenius partner shipper). It left the dock at 2013 GMT this evening.

Most of the MINI dealers (that I know of anyway) here in So Cal are asking a $2,000 to $3,000 premium on the Coupe (and getting it too!). There are lots of people here in So Cal (supply vs. demand), and so for the most part, if you want a Coupe here you'll pay a slight premium over MSRP (or at the very least you'll pay MSRP if you're lucky). You might find a deal on a justa, but a "S" or JCW Coupe will be at or above MSRP I believe.

Exactly! And if you're not willing to pay a premium over MSRP, then you have to get on a long waiting list for a production slot that's probably for a January (or later) build. Ouch! I don't think the dealerships are getting too many production slots for the Coupe and so it's easy for them to justify the premium over MSRP.

Maybe once the R59 Roadster comes out, the R58 Coupe will cool off a bit and better deals will be found (like on the hardtops). Personally, I wish every dealership would sell at MSRP only. That way, you'd know exactly what the car was worth and you wouldn't have to haggle (which IMHO is the worst part of buying a new car). It would also probably keep the blue book value of the cars up as well. Guess that's just me dreaming though.
Personally, I find it quite funny that some folks are so adamant about getting a discount off of MSRP (no matter how small), but are perfectly willing to pay $2,000 plus tax for the sub-par navigation system in the MINI (or the $2,250 leather seats, the $600 rear-view mirror, etc., etc.).

buying services like AAA's do have some MINI dealers in them. They are supposed to get $$$ off. Other folks here have reported decent discounts. I think it might depend a little on how many options you are buying. A stripped Justa has less room for negotiating. But a totally loaded JCW you should be able to get some money off.
I am getting the $750 off Motortober discount. And they had been willing to give me $500 for the whole Laguna Green snafu in the configurator.
Doesn't hurt to ask.

I agree. I wanted the Coupe but not bad enough to spend more than MSRP. I couldn't bring myself to do that.

Yeah, it's a real shame that they do it to folks, but I guess a lot of people are willing to pay the premium or else the dealers wouldn't even try their antics (again, it's all supply and demand driven in heavly populated areas I suppose).
