Coupe Care.

Now that we are getting them it would be great to have coupe owners share their gems about maintaining our superb driving machines.

For instance.....I'm noticing that I'll want to touch up the black skirt that goes around the entire car fairly soon. I have used BLACK WOW since it came on the market not long ago.....created with this purpose in mind. It brings the shiny, dark black color back when it begins to fade or is stained.....helping to maintain the coupe's luster and youthful look. It's a must....look it up!

What do you guys use on the rims to prevent the brake dust from trashing them over time? I generally just use a good coat of wax on them, but I'm sure that there's something better/more specific out there for the purpose.

I have a Midnight Black Coupe on the way, so I better start reading up on waxing, buffing, and polishing soon.

Prima products should do it for you. I use Epic, Banana Gloss, Slick, Hydro, Clarity, Mystique & Nourish. I'm interested in trying their newest..... Hydro Seal. I do all of it by hand.

My Coupé is going to live most of its life mired in road filth. Dealer threw in the teflon paint protectant (body & wheels) & the fabric guard, but it won't last. They swear bugs & brake dust will just wash off with the hose. Yeah, right. Not after I let them bake in the Florida sun for a few months.

@ Bill, seems we went to the same care car school. I don't like to wash cars and there is a quarter mile of limestone gravel and clay between my garage and pavement.

Seems like car care threads fill with how to be OCD about it instead of quick ways to get most of the way to an ok looking car.

As soon as I get the Coupe I'm thinking of getting "Acrylic Polymer Sealant" done for $110. The shop has a good reputation for detailing etc.

If it wasn't for the driveway dust and my lack of cleaning interest I'd have gotten black wheels.

Dealer offers unlimited free car washes and they are 3 miles south of me. I think I will be ok.

I'm already picturing the OCD detail freaks going "OMG CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE LETTING THE DEALER WASH YOUR CAR"

Whatevs :P

I've got my box of products just waiting. Unfortunately it's going to be hitting MN winter by the time my Coupe gets here, so I need to start sucking up to friends with heated garages (mine is not) so that I can get a good wash/wax in before the true brutality starts.

I also have an "emergency bird crap kit" for the boot once spring rolls around: detailer and some decent microfiber cloths. Bug/tar remover just in case something starts to bake. I have to park out in the open at work and there are geese EVERYWHERE.

Glad to see somebody who treats their car like I do; average. While I like the idea of detailing all the time, not in the cards for me time-wise.

PS: It was good to meet you at Mickey and MINI.

For my Red/Black 05 Mini, I use Menzerna Power Lock on the paint (3 or four layers), then coat with Meguires gold class paste wax for that extra deep shine. Wheel Wax on the wheels to keep the brake dust at a dull roar. Aerospace 303 protectent on the black bits, Surf City glass cleaner and Surf City Voodoo blend for the leather. Me..obsessed? Nah... How obsessed will I be with my incoming black/silver coupe?
