Speed Limiter

So I am curious to know if any of you have found yourselves paying more attention to staying under 50mph or above 37 in suburban driving so as to not raise/lower the spoiler?

We have several areas in the suburbs where traffic flows at 50mph in between stoplights, but now I am finding myself regulate my speeds! (granted I have only had the car a week, but...)

6 months & 10.5k into my Coupé ownership, I have learned to stop staring at the rear view mirror & checking the spoiler deployment status. Mostly.

I am wondering if the spoiler deployment speeds vary slightly from car to car. I know that mine deploys at precisely 51 mph every time, and it retracts at precisely 39 mph every time. But I see others noting different numbers frequently.

51 and 38 on mine.

I've regulated my speed where I know there are traffic clogs and try not to exceed 50 when I know I'm going to be stopped in less than a quarter mile. Unless people all around me are driving much faster, anyway. Most of the time I've given up though and just let the spoiler do as it pleases. It may end up going up and down 4-5 times in a half hour, which isn't that big of a deal.

MINI just needs to make the manual switch actually be a manual switch so it can truly override the auto spoiler function!

I agree on the switch... seem almost useless unless you just want to clean under it.

To be more precise, mine does raise at 51 and retract at 39 as well.

I'm 51 and 37 myself...and on a side note. I've noticed on mine (and 3 others as an experiment) Mini is terrible at showing precise speed. On 4 Mini's of varying models they consistently read 2-3mph faster than the actual speed of the car as tracked by radar. But previous cars, BMW, Ford, and Mitsubishi, the needles peg right on with the radar. Just odd...not really a problem. So i suppose my spoiler goes up and down at 48/34

51 and 37.. People saying otherwise are probably just looking at the digital speedo which doesn't update as fast when decelerating sometimes.

Also I'm addicted to getting my spoiler to deploy.. :(

I don't really pay any attention to the spoiler. I'd prefer to have the fixed JCW for the looks. I find it hard to believe it serves any function at all.

I actually tested mine by setting cruise control @ 49mph & adjusting it upwards in single clicks. Then I did the same on the way down- set it at 41, and adjusted downwards with single clicks.

51/39 every time for me.

Also MINI is notorious for having inaccurate speedos.. by like 3mph I believe.

I know this was true in R56's. Wouldn't be surprised if it is the same here.

Wink speed limiter

At first I looked at when wing came up and down. After a few days I don't notice anymore. It would be nice to have it come up at say 60mph instead of 51mph. Can this be programed to come up or down at different speeds? Mine is up at 51 and down at 37

Since its unlikely the wing does much below 70 mph it would make sense to have it raise at 60 and above. I still think the manual switch should raise it until you want it down. That'd be great for spirited drives that involve higher speeds that dip and rise often. Having said that, the spoiler does indeed serve a purpose according to what I've read from the designers. Not so much a downforce thing as an anti-lift thing.

QFE

The moveable spoiler flips to an angle in line with the roof spoiler. The fixed just looks a slab of wood.

81 and 62 for mine. Kilometres per hour, of course.

And after two months of ownership, I'm still watching the spoiler. As a friend of mine said the first time he saw the deployment, "It's like your car is alive."
