Tint

Hey all!

I'm going to put tint on my new Coupe when it arrives.

I was thinking of doing 35% on the back and sides, but I keep seeing other cars are going darker for the back. Going from no tint to getting tinting and not wanting it too dark has made me want to go easy on the tinting.

Anyone have a picture of a Coupe with 35% tinting on the sides and back?

I searched but I couldn't find any.

Sorry I don't have any pictures but I have 35% on the sides and back of

my black JCW. It completes the look as I have totally blacked out all the

chrome.

I have 35% all around and I would not go darker. The pic I attached is not the best, but I hope it helps.

Love the contrasting black and white. The tint really brings the car together. I was thinking about going the darkest all around on my coupe, that's what my R50 has and it's goes great with the black roof. But since visibility is not as great as the hatch, I'm not too certain the darkest tint would be best lol.

Thanks bwhit4!

That's what I was looking for. From what I can tell it still looks as dark as I was hoping on the back without having to go darker.

I really like the idea of keeping the tint as uniform as possible and it looks great!
With you and minirab, It's nice knowing I won't be alone with the 35% side and back combo!

NewCooperFanatic--
I'm with you on the tint bringing the roof and body together (which, looking at bwhit4's photo I think the 35% does too ), but going with 5%(or 20%)?
I would think that would dramatically reduce my nighttime visibility and I do a fair amount of night motoring. Did you have any trouble seeing at night in your R50?

I have no issues whatsoever while driving at night with dark tint.

Tint-image-2912685291.jpg

Not sure if you can tell from the picture but it's limo style tint haha. From the outside it's very difficult to see in, you could flick someone off and they wouldn't know lol. But from the inside visibility is no issue. And sorry if the photo doesn't come out. I'm trying to get the hang of the NAM app lol.

What's the TX State regulation on tint? I know in MA its 35% side and rear. I have also been considering it on my Coupe, for similar reasons of bringing the black roof in complete contrast through the glass.

Anyone have problems with the tint peeling off? When the door is open the windows go a down a few centimeters and go up when the door is closed.

MINIs have been doing that for many years. I've had tint on two MINIs for over 6 years each and not an issue.

Halldor, I'm going to go 50% all around when I get my Coupe. Will look awesome and will help reduce the heat. Also going to put the clear heat-blocking film on the windshield to REALLY reduce the heat and to protect the dash from UV rays.

NewCooperFanatic, that is incredibly dark, but it does look good! Thanks for the photo!
I'm glad to hear that your night vision isn't impaired. I need to find some vehicles (preferably Coupes that have darker %) to sit in.

It's too bad you can't try on different percents in your car before install. Or can you? hmmm

Chor, from what I have read it looks like in TX you can have 25% on the sides and any % on the rear.
I'm so used to driving without tint at all that 35% feels like a big jump.

CR&PW&JB, 50% would be an easy choice for me! I wish you had your Coupe now so I could see some photos of it!

I hadn't even thought about the clear heat-blocking film. I need to look into that.

When you take it to get tinted, you could ask if they would put some tint up against the window to see the different shades.

I also opted dark tint because it does reflect heat.
There are 2 types of tint, the one that has x years of warranty and doesn't reflect heat and one with a life time warranty that does reflect heat.

Be sure to specify which one you want!!
I have the heat reflective kind.
Here's a photo of the R50 with the window rolled up...just to get an idea of how it looks with the darkest tint.

Thanks for the photo NewCooperFanatic! I appreciate it! That looks surprisingly good.

Maybe I can go darker. One of my friends was wanting me to go as dark as legal.

My dealership is going to install the tint (but they may just have some tint co. come by for their tinting needs). I'll ask them about which kind of tint they use and if I can stop by and see them on a car or hold some up against a window to help.

At the moment I'm still partial to the 35% thanks to bwhit4's photo.

Not the greatest picture because of the shade caused by the building. But it's 20% rear and 35% front.

Thanks for the photo InVisb0L!

The more I see the 35%, the lighter it appears to me. lol

With the shade added 20% looks very dark. I'm trying to imagine my car with 25% all around.

More than likely I'll be going with either 35% or 25% for sides and rear.

Not a big fan of the tint, but I'm thinking of tinting the small side glass, to make them look solid with the black trim. But i don't know, once I get it I'll see what I mess around with.

Obviously not a Coupe, but this might help. 35% on the sides, 50% rear.

BlueToy, thanks for the photo! That's an amazing picture!

Beautiful sky and awesome Roadster!

I think I'm becoming more and more comfortable with the 35% tint with all of these photos. So much so, that I'm wondering if I can go up to the 25%.

One thing's for sure, I'm going to be a lot cooler with all of the 100+ days we have around here.

And here is 20% from the side with full sun glaring on it. This will tell you how much people can see into the car with full sun and 20%:

This is 35% all around. Not overly dark. I just prefer to have the same tint all around, because I'm OCD like that. Besides, 20% would be illegal on the front, as well as probably too dark for my taste.

I do have the legal windshield glare strip in 35% as well.

These 2 pics were taken on a not-so-sunny day.

And a couple the day the tint was applied, when is the sun was a bit more intense...

Thanks GP0256 for the multiple photos. I really like full sun glaring photo!
That makes me think maybe I will do the 25% all the way around. Your MINIs look impressive with that tint!

I keep thinking of when I first saw the Coupe Concept and how they always showed it with ink black tint. ...and it was gooood!

BillTheCat I know how you feel, I suffer from OCD as well and must have the same % all way round too!
I really appreciate all of your photos from different angles and light! Thanks a bunch! (Love the lightning blue!) After seeing those, I have complete confidence that I would be ok with 35% on the sides and rear.
Now, I just need to check out the 25% in person! (my OCD rears its ugly head again!)

So all the Tint talk and some of the photos especially the lightning blue Coupes (Thanks BilltheCat) have made me decide to get Lightning McMini done. Taking him in tomorrow to get 35% ceramic based done, Ill post some photos of the results.

I can't wait to see the pics Chor!

I found out my dealer (who is going to install the tint at a discount) can only do 35% or 17% so it looks like that decision is settled-- 35% it is. I might go darker later with a different tint co., but I don't want anything that will get me pulled over.

I wonder if in actuality it will be a little darker than that with MINI having a small tint already present on the glass?

Anyway, it will be great to see some more photos of a 35% with a black roof!
