I got it because this was my first MINI and had read previous threads on reliability being hit or miss at times.
however.. the 2013 and beyond Rxx series all seem to be pretty solid and reliable due to them being at the end of the R series production... The N18 engine and the current automatic transmissions seems solid minus the few lemons and people who don't take care of them but say they do. like Minnie said.. hit up a few threads.. as your MINI had any problems yet?

The engines are better but not perfect (see oil wicking problem). Make sure you read all the features of the warranty what it covers / doesn't cover deductible etc.
I say if you have the cash and plan to keep the car for 100k miles it's probably not the worst gamble to make.
But with that said I don't buy those warranties. I figure if my car breaks and costs me 3k I will make that call to spend the money when/if that happens.
