Hope you enjoy that JB+. I've had mine for a little more than 20,000 miles on my 2013 MCS and it has worked perfectly.

OMG, what great little upgrade!!!

My R58 was fun as it was, and now with the JB+ it's more even more fun and exciting!

R58 is getting more of my time than my C600 Sport BMW bike...

Highly recommend the upgrade for those that still use the R58 a commuter vehicle, and do not want an all out ECU upgrade...

LOVE, LOVE the R58 with the JB+!!!

I cannot say any better........ and if it is a JCW, it is an add-on not to miss because this become serious performance for a very low investment.

Mine is also a daily driver and I don't need anything else.

I actually pulled the trigger and ordered one on Tuesday (Broadspeed's fourth birthday - nice little gift for her, I think). I honestly can't wait to get it and install it!

But, because I can only get 91 octane Shell fuel in Canada, should I keep the **** set at 100% or turn it down to, say, 70%? Any thoughts would be welcome.

The unit comes with the dial set at 50% (12 O'clock position). Based on what read in this forum, using 92 octane (CA USA) should have the dial set at 11 o'clock position.

I'm not sure, but that might work for you too...

FYI... it took roughly 75 miles of driving for the JB+ to fully kick-in... And you'll notice it when it does...

Mine is also set at 11 o'clock and I never touched it again after I found a proper performance balance. We have 91 octane here in WA.

The old units vs. the newer ones post CARB approval have different settings, thought I'd point that out.

I have an older unit from the summer of 2014. I was told to set mine at 40-45%. It really does wake up my JCW Coupe.

Exactly, and I'm almost certain that mine will be the CARB-approved unit, and 100% on that one is the equivalent to 50% on the old one.

I just don't want to blow anything up in my engine by running 91 octane and leaving it set to 100%. I'm guessing I should dial it back for the lower octane rating, eh? 91 is the highest I can get in Canada without having ethanol mixed in, and that's a huge no-no for Broadspeed (both my own personal recommendation as well as from my dealer).

Look at the instructions on their website. I you run 91 premium unleaded as by the Mini recommendation, it needs to be set at 50 or lower depending of your climatic conditions.

Again, mine is at 11 o'clock and has never been a problem. I never removed either for smog test or OEM service.

The nice thing is MPG stays about the same at 30-32 on freeway.

I did see that earlier, but their instructions talk about 90 octane and lower. I guess 91 is close enough to 90 that I should dial it back to 50%?

It works for me.

I believe the 100% set-up is for racing fuel 100 octane and higher with other additives for track cars but I may be wrong.

I have the JCW. It's pretty fast as it is. How much different is it after you add the JB+ to it? It's not hard to control coming out of turns is it?

I would not say it is faster but the engine is substantially more responsive with the added hp and torque.

Does it void warranty?

My understanding of mod's and warrantees; Only if the issue needing warrantee repair is caused by the modification. The burden of proof will belong to you to prove that the modification did not cause the issue that needs repair.

On another note, the JB+ removes easily; therefore, I will remove the JB+ any time I bring the R58 for any service.

Just my two cents... FYI I could be wrong about warrantee stuff...

Somebody posted that their Mini dealer sold them their JB+ and installed it right there for him, guess it didn't void his warranty right?

It'll depend on the dealership and how sticky they are with any sort of problem that looks like a performance modification issue. My dealer has been great with all the light mods I've done to my car, but I've heard horror stories from others who will void warranties if you've got a dry aftermarket air filter in the stock housing. Ask your dealer's service people to see what they say.

With saying that, I've had zero issues with my JB+ so far. It doesn't make the car feel much faster, but the drivability is way more pleasant. You feel like you've got all the power there when you need it, without the car feeling high-strung. I love it!

The new units come defaulted at 100% setting for n18 engines using std high quality pump fuel. I guess that means highest octane available from a US retailer. They recommend turning it down to 50% for lower octane fuel (90).

Question would be sensitivity of the curve from 50 to 100. Doubt it's linear, probably trial and error.

I emailed BMS about the recommended setting for 91 octane (the highest I can find in Canada that doesn't have stupid ethanol). They emailed me back and said it wouldn't be a problem to run it at 100% (brand-new unit, preset at 100%).

So I'm assuming it's not very linear between 91 octane and 90? 91 is good for 100%; 90 is good for 50%. Weird.

I can also confirm no issues whatsoever running 91 at 100%. It's a lot of fun!

I purchased my JB+ on eBay... How do I know if the unit I have is the, "new" (which mine was set 100% when it came), versus the "old" unit which should be set to 11pm (50%)?

I guess it should have a label certification and nothing else.

Today, I found the old one has a label underneath I never removed. It says "for racing only".
