My Coupe went into safe mode twice in the last month. Each time after turning the car off, then starting it everything was fine no limp mode or yellow engine in the dash so I didn't get right into seeing what was wrong.

I had time to do some things yesterday so I hooked up my tablet using Bimmerlink to check the codes. Looked up the codes here

2D5A: 0x2D5A VANOS, inlet: control error, camshaft jammed

- Eliminate secondary faults, faults for the following components/functions:

Oil level too low - it wasn’t
Camshaft sensor - doubtful since starting without clearing the code and it ran normal
VANOS solenoid valve, inlet - -since it is intermittent this is my guess
- Perform system test. - Not sure how to test other than switching one for the other.
- Replace VANOS solenoid valve, inlet – intend to replace inlet solenoid.

2DA0: 0x2DA0 intake camshaft: angular offset to crankshaft outside tolerance

- Check the camshaft sensor wheel intake – likely culprit as it is intermittent as well need to find where it is
- Check the timing chain
- Check valve timing

2778: 0x2778 Air mass meter, working range: period too low, air mass too high

‐ Check wiring harness between DME and HFM - Could my JB+ be causing this?
- Replace HFM – I will try to clean it 1st with starting fluid see if this gets it.

2C58: 0x2C58 boost pressure control, shutdown: pressure build-up blocked

The fault is recognized when additional diagnostic fault codes related to the charging pressure control have been logged. MSF code above could have triggered this.

Next weekend, I will tear through everything above and see what I can find.

 

Unfortunately, my parts, vanos solenoids, didn't arrive. I will try next weekend.

I had most of the codes popup again early last week. Again turn it off and then back on and it was fine.
