No hassle at all getting the TPMS to work. As I have passive TPMS, I do not need to have a sensor inside my wheel.
I specced out a set of snow tyres and wheels at Tire Rack and they said I needed TPMS sensors. My previous MINIs (2003/2007) didn't have the sensors. Can anyone confirm either way what the 2012s have? Would it be on the window sticker or in the manual?

You can tell if you have active or passive by looking at your valve stems. If its rubber, then its passive. If its metal, then its active.

Your Coupe came w/ passive TPMS? Mine has the metal valve stems so (by your assessment) is active. I also have a Cooper S, perhaps that changes things?

Yes, it came with passive TPMS from the factory. I believe this is a Canadian model difference.
Thanks Steven.. I told you my car was your JCW's pedestrian cousin! lol
btw.. Finally had a chance to follow your detailing tips.. The car didn't look nearly this good straight from the dealership.
