Does the fabric top do OK when it gets folded when it's this cold outside? It's 12:30 pm here in ol' Glacial Maine and the temperature just nearing 10 degrees above zero F.

Nice picture, by the way, but why are those windows up?

I put it down in the garage where it never really drops below about 45F, so any folding is done when it's "warm". I have a 30 to 45 minute drive to work, and then it goes up. I have the full manual top so I can do this at any temperature without the electronics saying no.

The windows are up because I don't like frostbite on my face. I'm about to do between 50 and (a bit more than that on the interstate) for my drive in, plus I want to listen to spoken word podcasts while doing that.

Great picture! Do you use chains or something similar when driving there? I do hope you have the cold weather package.

I was just kidding about the windows!

My coldest drive top down so far has been 37 degrees on clean dry road surfaces. Roads have been too mucky here the last couple of weeks to try taking the Roadster out. You should see our "Winter" car. Not a pretty sight at all.

Would love to take the Mini out for a real drive in the snow. So far, that's only happened on the driveway.

Yes! Heated seats make this possible. I have Blizzak snow tires, not needed any more than that. I don't think chains are legal in MA, but if it was that bad I'd be at home, let alone top-down.

Yesterday was warm enough, but there was a lot of melting snow and slush on the roads so I didn't do it. Salt in the teeth is no fun!

I've been trying to drive windows-down in the summer a bit more, but when it's less than about 50F there's no chance!

Salt in teeth,

Now tires make a huge diffrence in the snow, have studded right now for my R52. Well not on the R58 JCW

Sounds like someone drives a nice "Winter" car! No substitute for snow tires in Winter when it snows. All season tires don't come close, especially when you have to deal with snow covered roads in the hills.

Yes, the R58 JCW stays in the garage ( only comes out when sunny and over 32 degrees) and the R52 MCC is the winter convertible w/ studdded tires

Does very well in the snow. Nice winter MINI. But also a summer car or winter top down car when its above freezing. Heated seats, side windows up and heat on blast. Convertible Windscreen up and you ready to roll,

The closest I got to the road yesterday. Needed to go another 70 feet farther. It didn't. Way too messy a road with all the mush, salt and sand. Even at 9 degrees F it was it was pretty wet... so I drove around on the driveway a little and then back in the garage it went.

Snow can be a pain, but we really need it up here on our mountains for skiing and later on, for the Spring Freshet. We do like that drinking water, and the snow melt is really essential for recharging our aquifer.

Looks like we're missing out on this strong mid Atlantic snow event. Some snow might reach as far as Boston, but that's the northern extent they're figuring on at the moment. Not seeing any significant snowfall coming our way for the next 10 days. That puts us into February.

I went skiing at Sunday River ski area today and where they don't make snow, there's only about 3-5 inches where there should be 2-3 feet piled up at this time of year. We actually have a little more snow here at home in the foothills about 40 miles south of Sunday River. I measured 8-10 inches of settled snow on the ground yesterday. We would generally have about 2-3 feet on the ground by now as well. There's still time to build up a good snow pack before we start to seriously warm up in March and April. Some of the biggest mountain snow dumps can actually occur in March here in Maine, but snow by then doesn't last too long.

At least it's cold, and have been able to keep the fairly small amount of snow we have so far.

I just hope all the North East coast MINI roadster are going to sleep in tonight!!! We'll be getting just 3" to 6" around here. Ours always sleeps inside.

Some of us on the east coast are completely spared. Cool, breezy Mini motoring day up here in Maine. Wishing for all that snow.
