Nice modification.

Yes that's the hood insulation from the MINI Diesel. Newer hood insulation that has more coverage.

That had to be the easiest mod I've ever done....

NM Engineering's Titanm turbo heat shield.

now I need to get a 4" NM decal for the hood there's a spot above the Alta decal that will look great.

Waiting for it to warm up before I go under to do the short shift kit and cover.

And that's the perfect time to bolt on a new Akrapovic exhaust.

I'm thinking this is next and I'm wondering whether the heat shield can be painted. Does anyone have any experience with whether paint can stand the heat above the turbo?

I'd say no. But, you might be able to have it powder coated, that can stand higher heat. Why not have it polished. You have to polish it up often, but will look nice.

Powder coating is sweet. I've had my Whalen shift **** and the rear 1/4 of my exhaust powder coated. It's relatively inexpensive.

Did the powder coating handle the temperature of the exhaust system and how long ago did you have it done?

Thanks

Basically the powder coating starts at the back of the muffler and continues to the tips. They were probably baked hotter during the process than that part of the pipes get driving around.

Light weight rims on a MINI....
Makes such a HUGE change in the feel of the car, I cringe when I hear folks putting on heavy cast 17's or 18' rims....makes the car's steering heavy and truck like. Light rims=playful feeling MINI imo!! You will LOVE the change!!

I had the lightest Enkies on both of my Miata's, they where the best......

I can't remember off the top of my head exactly, somewhere around 15lbs maybe less.

Makes those twisty's a blast.....

For right now the Springs will be on stock shocks. The jury is still out on whether or not its a good idea to use stock shocks. While I don't disagree with the fact that aftermarket shocks would do worlds of difference, my wallet DOES. I've already spent over my allowance and I havent even gotten the car yet. Next big purchase will be to get rid of the RFT and go sporty All seasons.

I really fell in love with the look of the GP2 Diffuser.

Problem was, I have a Cooper Roadster and even though I have the Factory JCW Trim, the passenger-side muffler and single tail pipe made consideration of the diffuser quite problematic.

So there was only one thing to do. I'm guessing it might be the only R59 of its kind -- which I like.

Agreed. Nice work. I also like the chrome boot handle cover. I think that these photos have made me decide to do that.

Gary, this looks terrific, well thought out. Have you noticed any difference in performance with the exhaust upgrade? Love the look, Lil Raggi might just be getting a new diffuser soon, too.

Haven't really had it long enough to notice. In any event, my objectives were completely aesthetic so any little bump would just be an added bonus.

I have been looking to ugrade the exhaust to Akrapovic but the reply from outmotoring is that it only fits the R58 and not the R59 because of the bracing issues. Anyone had the same experiece.

What other exhaust would you recommend if the Akrapovic is a no go.

Thanks.

Sorry but that is BS. I've had the Akrapovic down pipe, exhaust, delete-R for over six months on my 2013 Roadster S. I got it from Way, they had it in stock and sent it to me in two days. It's the best exhaust you could put on a roadster in my opion.
