Found them

Now, what's the additional switch that turns them on?

These are part of the kits for the R56-R61 and F56+ rally lights / grille mount ( not headlights ) , you have to get the grille / bracket & interior switch , then the New LED Rally light kit. These can take the place also if you already have the rally light ( halogen version ) and replace it with these.

Spiney will be the first to have these I have seen , these are hot off the boat from MINI.

I have an empty spot on my switch middle console. I wonder if it's possible to use that switch instead... I'd have to get a switch since there is nothing on that empty spot now.

Otherwise I probably would not place that switch where they recommend it. It wouldn't look nice with our interior...

I'll confirm it when I fit it, but as far as I know the switch is just a momentary contact (i.e. it doesn't lock in, it's just a push on/push off), it has a light in to show when the rally lights are on, and in conjunction with the control unit the rally lights reset to OFF every time you switch off the car and start up again. The toggles in the centre stack aren't just simple switches either, so I think it would be quite a bit of custom wiring to find a way to use one of them. You can get the trim piece where the switch goes in all the colour line variations so it will still match.

Thanks, that would be great.

I'm not afraid to do a little custom wiring work. I've done my share and I'm pretty good at it but I would still need to evaluate both switch and see what can be done. If they are both push buttons (one state) there are more chances to make it work than is one if a On/off toggle switch (two positions) and the other is not. It's just a matter of understanding the parameters of both and see if the behavior and spec are conducive to custom wiring

Just to be clear, when you say push-on|push-off are you saying it behaves like a ball point pen (which would mean two states) or is it just a push button and the car detects when it is actuated?

Now you guys have the bug nibbling at me. The LEDs could be a big step up from the legacy halogen driving lights I had on my previous MINI.

Does anyone have any pics of these illuminated? I wonder how they compare to the DRLs -- hopefully very similar in color temp and intensity.

I'm surprised how small the relay is compared to the brick that accompanied the DRL kit...

I'm half way in to fitting the new driving lights. There's a lot more to disassemble than I thought.

The cowl is off to get at the grommet for the wiring. You also have to take off the left dash trim (just pops out), the left dash end cover (another careful levering), the left underdash panel, and remove a bunch of screws and move the left air vent to one side just to fit the new knee roll with the switch!

The brackets are easy though. This morning should see it done, I hope.

I believe that you can use the missing spot in the center stack. That spot was meant for the rear fog light. I've been waiting for a kit like this to try out.

You will need to

1.) Install an additional toggle. I've done this, it is really easy and takes about 5 minutes. How to: Read through the thread, you do not have to remove the entire center console. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...h-install.html

2.) Replace the toggle bank cover if you want the icon. This icon is almost ideal for this application.

3.) Recode the car using NCS Expert (or INPA if you have access to it) to enable the rear fog function.

Once recoded, the toggle will supply power to the rear fog light wiring so you will have to find the wires, cut them and reroute to the new driving light kit. On my 2013 (R56) the wires are there even though I did not have the rear fog option. I had to mess with the wiring when I installed the rear JCW Aero kit bumper. I'd imagine that it is the same for the roadster.

One concern when doing it this way is that the logic for how the lights work might not be exactly how you want. It might not be much of a factor but I'm really not sure if the rear fog lights are dependent on other things, like do the headlights need to be on, etc.

The cover and toggles are available from ECStuning or Way, etc.

Good news and bad news....

I finally got everything fitted, but they don't light up. The wiring all seems to be right, I have voltage and continuity where I think they should be. Also, when I power the car on I can push the new button and it lights up. The DRLs still work, and low and high beam still work. No go with the new lights though.

The instructions say no coding required - are they lying?

I so wanted to here about it

What's the light source? A built in LED or a removable one? I know it sounds stupid but maybe there's no bulb and maybe you missed it in the box? or perhaps something is not wired or plugged properly like the relay. I don't know sometime it helps just to have someone make you think of something...I know it happens to me all the time.

It's all on one. There's no bulb or anything like that. I'm thinking that if they burn out you have to replace the whole thing. Replying to you has reminded me that I didn't try unplugging the lamps and seeing if the power gets there. I'll try that another day unless you or someone else has any other ideas.

Double check to see if it was hooked up. I am excited to see these light.

I have the halogen retrofit install here which should be the same. Check the inline fuse and it looks like it has another fuse in the kit, 3amp. Test for power at the terminals near wire at the lights themselves..

Install PDF :

Thanks and good luck.

I think I found a possible cause of the problem. I was using these instructions from the pre-LCI cars, which has you connect a wire to pin 4 of one of the connectors in the footwell. I found some newer instructions here which have you connect that same wire to pin 41 of that connector. Now all I have to do is take the stupid footwell apart (again!) and swap that wire over and see what happens....
