Exhaust Tubing Sizes / Custom Exhaust

I think I've decided to start cutting up the stock exhaust since ALL4 exhausts are fairly hard to find anywhere (currently). The only one that will be out soon-ish is basically just 2 new mufflers and tips. Sadly, the ALL4 is just cramped for space - I'm giving up hope that we'll ever see a proper downpipe.

I know some of you have messed with the exhaust piping already. What I need to know is if anyone has an idea of the stock exhaust tubing sizes. I'm looking for the following:

1) Tubing size before the Y split to the muffler.
2) Tubing size to each muffler (if different) or muffler ID/OD.
3) Tubing size to each exhaust tip (if different) or tip ID/OD.

I'm planning on chopping those up and adding some 3.5" black tips back there, so I'd like to have all the materials ready before taking it to be welded.

Thanks in advance.

Two mufflers? TWO MUFFLERS?

(see my Gallery for under-the-CM4 shots)

I was just wondering the same thing. Oh and very nice underside pics.

Do you mean the front resonator and rear muffler?

Crap, I take responsibility for the brain fart. I climbed under the car before posting originally and knew full well it was a single big muffler.

However, I've been staring at the new VIP exhaust with the two mufflers for a month now. I guess that took priority in my mind. Getting old is a *****!

I might be wrong, but I think that's not for the ALL4, just as the VIP set is not. Additionally, that's going to be very pricy for all of us over here in the US.

Still hoping that somebody knows the piping size. The people that have switched the tips over probably have some idea of what's needed. Can any of you guys elaborate (if you remember)?

fyi, the Scorpion exhaust is fitted to the ALL4. Never priced it, I imagine big $$$.

Super Sprint has an exhaust that was developed using a NAM members ALL4, see the mods section.

I'm doing tips first, then we will see what comes of the offerings in the next 6 months.

Good info - didn't realize the Scorpion full exhaust was for the ALL4! Now if only I could afford the shipping on it. :D

I'm with you - going to chop the muffler off and go from there while waiting for the full exhausts to show up.

Yep, that's what I've been following for some time (since late Feb).

It's not available yet, but they're taking orders. Not my cup of tea until the full exhaust comes out, though.

Not to hijack.... but has anyone just removed the 2nd cat and resonator, leaving the muffler as-is? It looks simple enough, and I know it's been done before on other MINIs, but I haven't seen it on a CM yet.

Can you say Drone? Or Loud?

It's not like the one-ball mod...

Yes, the drone would be quite bad.

I'm hoping to get the answer to the sizes soon so I can go forward with the muffler removal and re-pipe. I'll be happy to put clips up for you guys on the fence about what to do.

I would recommend against removing that front resonator if you don't care for heavy drone.

Clips of whatever you end up doing would be great. I'm definitely on the fence. The car is just too quiet.

Don't make me beg... or cut the muffler off in a fit of frustration. Still looking for good measurements.

Break out the sawzall and let me know how it sounds. :-)
I thought I read somewhere it's a strange size, between 2.25 and 2.5... but I don't know the correct answer.

I think what I would do is, do a y-pipe from the headers (if their is room to be allowed up there, or if the y-pipe is even needed) into a single 3" pipe with a resonator or 2, depending how quite or loud you want it. Then another y-pipe going to each side of the exits with a muffler in each pipe... and whatever tips you want.

All custom; reasonably priced, depending on the muffler/resonator you buy; lighter than most systems out there, better power to weight; and you can make it sound how you want it to sound for the fraction of the price of most exhausts out there.
