WTH is that sound?

Hi,
I was watching this video
and at about 2:30 they start doing the 'This is the sound of my exhaust inside the car' part of their video. Can you tell me what that loud whining sound is that seems to match the acceleration? WTH is that? The tranny? The turbo? Just the engine? I'd hate to install a part not knowing what it will sound like and end up with that happening every time I drove... Thanks and cheers.

Since its an R 53 that would be the sound of the supercharger. Depending on the mods the sound can be more prominent. The video may exaggerate it some. My R53 has the sound but during normal driving its not super noticeable. When I put my foot into it and accelerate hard you can really hear it. Hope this helps.

it is the SC!!
Ahh...the WHINE!!
Some Cold air intakes are made specifically to make it louder!!
Some like the JCW and the Dinian keep it more muted......
All about picking the right part for how you drive!!

Kinda INTOXICATING!!

I did choose a quieter intake....but the sound is STILL GREAT on hard acceleration, but not present in cruise!!
The SOUND MAKES you want to accelerate faster!!

Fuel economy mostly...a turbo uses WASTE energy (exhaust) to make boost...a SC uses CRANK power....so not running a SC is a 20 HP gain or so in terms of fuel burn (LESS HP can be made to get the same HP to the wheels, resulting in better MPG) in fuel Burn. DOES have other issues....covered many times...came down to a different motor, different engineers, different goals.
Just comes down to different ways to do similar things!

Thanks for the reply.. Ive always wondered why..lol.. Next week im ordering a 2013 MCS which has the turbo.. Im trading in my 2003 MCS SC.. Ive been one of the lucky ones I think and haven't had any problems at all with my 2003.. I hope the same goes for the 2013 turbo one... But it sounds from what I understand from you is gas mileage being the main factor for the change.. Thanks again!
