Any of those that have driven or taken receipt of their new Countryman, have any info on the pop and burble with sport button turned on? I spoke to a MA who thought it would be there just like all the rest of the 2011 models, but i read on motoringfile a while back that it would not be.

I read on MF that in sport mode you would hear the burble. I haven't had a chance to drive one.

 

I've posted on another thread about this also. I've had my '11 MCS hardtop since 12-14 and I only drive in sport mode. So far, I haven't heard anything different from my '10 MCS hardtop. I'm not saying it isn't there but I just haven't heard it. After I break it in, I may get to drive it correctly to where it becomes noticeable.

 

What is the pop and burble? My dealer has an S model All4 and I was planning on going back for a second test drive so can give it a check if I know what to look for.

 

Supposedly it was going to be added back into the engine mapping of the Countryman. Not sure about the hardtop, convert or Clubbie.

 

This is from Motoringfile.com: "The 2011 model year sees the introduction of the updated engine range for the US. In the Cooper S that means a thoroughly reworked 1.6L turbo with variable valve timing and 181 hp (184 bhp) – a nine horsepower increase from last year.Also upgraded is the engine management software. The most celebrated software change (at least at the MF HQ) is the pop/burble on throttle lift-off with sport in the on position. To be more specific, just go from 3rd to 2nd while matching revs and you will immediately know what we’re talking about. "

The Countryman S that I drove had the pop and burble! I believe I had it in Sport mode, but I cannot remember if it did the pop and burble without it in sport mode.

cool... hopefully I will get a chance to test drive one soon... its been killing me...have to decide jcw cooper or S countryman... decisions decisions...

 

I'm pretty sure I remember reading about the exhaust note in Sport mode in the users manual. Too busy to look it up now as I'm wearing out the F5 key on the WW Track and Trace screen...

 

hahaha I remember that obsession when I was waiting for my 08 clubman to arrive... i'll be there again come March. I just need to decide what flavor of MINI I want next...

Here is what it says in the Countryman users manual regarding the Sport button:


Pressing the button causes your MINI to respond even more sportily.
Engine responds more spontaneously to movements of the accelerator.
Steering response is more direct.
Cooper S: the engine sounds more sporty in coasting mode.

yes it does, I have 2200 miles on my Countryman S now, and I mostly keep it on Sport for that reason, I love the sound of it.......

 

So, how is your gas mileage after 2200 miles in SportMode.

Did your dealer send an email asking you to bring in the MINI for a sticker update?

Take a picture of all your stickers before you go in for the change, would like to see what that collector sticker looks like.

Just got back from a second test drive of a Countryman S ALL4 and I did hear some popping while in sport mode. Not as much as our 2006 Cooper S but it was there.

Hmmm well I'm just continually surprised how much get up and go the Countryman has. I didn't expect it to be as zippy as it is for some reason. Paddle shifters were fun to mess with but I doubt I would ever touch them as we really never have in our 2006 Mini S.

I did notice a notable difference in the gearing once I pushed the "Sport" button. I have driven other cars that have something similar and with most the difference is not that noticeable. In the Countryman I definitely noticed a performance difference when the Sport button was pushed.

On the drive tonight I also hit some rough roads and I was pleasantly surprised with how well the suspension cushioned the car going over the rough roads. I feel very comfortable having a car seat in this car. (Expecting our first in July) With our current Mini S the suspension is so "sporty" (i.e. can feel every bump) I would not want to kart a newborn around in it. After this additional test drive I feel even more that the Countryman is just what are looking for in a second car. It is definitely more of a daily driver than our sporty Mini S.

 

Ok, I heard popping for the first time tonight in my MCS hardtop. I believed the Countryman would get the same treatment since it is a 2011 as its smaller Cooper S siblings. From the above posts, it sounding better all the time.

 

Ok early in the wee hours, me and this Mustang was messing around and I had Jumboshrimp in sport mode. We were at it for a couple of miles until he turned off and I went home. And then I heard it!!! The Popping and Burbling of the exhaust. Damn thats such a sweet sound, I just wish I could hear it on a more consistant basis.

I had never really used the sport mode until after I read the thread today. Also today I had some 4" tips put on. The drive home was NICE :-) Pop and Burble.. Yup.. Pretty damn cool..
