adaptive headlight on all S ALL4?
Hi,
I've got a 2013 Countryman S ALL4 that I recently purchased, used. It has Nav, sport package, cold weather, fog lights (non-LED) satellite radio, etc. (seems to have everything except JCW, PDC and alarm)
I asked the dealer if it had adaptive headlights, and he told me, after looking at the options (somehow) that it didn't.
After reading these forums, I realized I'd never used the "auto" mode on the headlights. So, I tried this the other day and it's working. I've tried with high-beam and with fog lights...it works in any situation, as long as the selector is in the "auto" mode.
So, my question is do ALL CMs that are S ALL4, and have Bi-Xeon lights, have adaptive headlights?
If not, but they have the Bi-Xeon and only need the "$100 option" that I see on the new configurator (I don't know what was available in 2013), can that "option" be coded after the fact?
I will attempt to read my codes to see what's in there now and let you know.
Thanks,
-Ambidexter
P.S. Here's a tip to check if a car you have or are looking at has adaptive lights without being at night or taking a drive. Start the car, light mode set to auto (down), and the lights are on, then you can just park next to a wall or window so you can see the lights, and "shake" the steering wheel back and forth, and watch the light. It will move with adaptive lights, to make sure, turn the selector up to "on" and try again...it should NOT shake the lights now. Back into auto, and the lights will go left and right as you shake wheel quickly left and right.

I believe the adaptive was available but not in black on the r56-r59 platform, but they were on the R60 platform. I can see both adaptive for black and chrome lights for Xenon. But they also have black and chrome Xenon non adaptive lights.
Cannot be coded as the part for the adaptive lights have another motor in the housing that moves side to side, would have to buy the new adaptive headlights and then recode. They had the option back in 2011.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks, that makes sense.
I just thought that the option may be available but not enabled...after all, the "upgrade" when ordering is only $100. So unless they're losing money on it, I imagine it was like a software company shipping with all options but requiring a license key to active one or more of them. (or like a built-in satellite that needs subscription)
It makes the build less complex. But if there's extra motors and stuff, then coding isn't enough.
Cheers,

You are welcome. Some items are coded for additional features, in these they are not.
