Cooling system replacement intervals
Hi all!
I'm about a year into my transition from BMWs to MINIs and couldn't be more validated in my decision. Quick question about the cooling systems in these cars. In BMWs, it's a pretty standard practice to replace the main cooling system components (radiator, main hoses, water pump, and thermostat) every 75,000 miles or thereabouts. Is this a thing for MINI's too?
Cheers!

Most replace when they leak or you can do preventative and replace before they leak. One often neglected task on many cars is the maintenance of the cooling system. Be sure to change/flush your coolant and to not neglect this task.

Onwed many BMW and MINIs. The MINI don't have the cooling hose issue, ( other then the Gen 2 cooling pipe ) but the coolant will need flushed every so offten years and the water pumps, thermostats, expansion tank. and housing can be an issue. Most people do it all at once.
Radiators are not an issue unless very high mileage. But the heater cores can be an issue.
Let me know if you need anything. I owned many of both. How many miles do you have ?

If it's not leaking, then you should be fine, but if you feel up to it you can inspect them and replace the components at a preventative measure. Have you done a flush yet in the R56? In general, it's recommended that you flush and clean out your cooling system once every 36 months, or approximately every three years. Sometimes I do it every 1 or 2 years. The reason for this is that old, exhausted coolant can actually cause irreversible damage to your engine components: We here at Pelican found this out firsthand when the head gasket on our '93 BMW 325is was replaced. The previous owner didn't look like he had changed the fluid once in the past ten years. As a result, there were many parts of the engine that were corroded and showing severe signs of wear.
