Well, I know
Red Fury,
I know how mine happened. I think that your "high heat" theory is correct.
But, your number of track days doesn't seem out of line. What about the length of the sessions? My CAT failure seemed to occur after a very long track session, 90 minutes, and got progressively worse there after.
Understanding the failure mode has implications for anyone who wants to track their MINI. I haven't heard of failures when the sessions are 20 minutes long, with a cool down lap. That said, I wonder if tracking a MINI leads to progressive CAT failure. Don't know. I have a track pipe that I insert to replace the CAT for track days only. See this link:

Greg has been busy with his car and progress is going well. He's been cautious about his posts. The car will be very trick and far different than the average race MINI. I've seen the car and pics in private. We'll all have to wait for it's preview this spring. Trust me it's going to be different. Enough said.
Hope I didn't say too much Greg!!!!!!!!!

No Larry, didn't say too much ..
Possible future article about the car coming up in Roundel.
Still tons to do. Just know that every bolt on this car is being scrutinized. We had some suspension design issues, but the outcome will be even more rewarding.
One of the reasons that so much time is being taken is that I personally am doing a lot of the work. Learning to mill and turn new aluminum bushings is my latest thing. It's a good feeling knowing that I personally know every bolt and weld on this car.

Greg,
Did you see Way's photos of the cars in the UK Challenge? One I thought was interesting showed the rear anti-rool bar mounted on the foor of the boot with the end-links going down through the floor.

Greg has the Leda's on the car at present but I do not know what his plans wil be once the car is actually on the track. I am presently working with another track car that does have the Motons on it and he is very happy with the results.

We may get to find out as Greg did point out that the car is still registered The attention to detail so far leads me to beleive that the remaining plans for the completion of this car will be accomplished to the same impecable standard. The staff he has working on the car has a very impressive resume and it was great to get to meet them and talk about past acquaintances from the early 70's The Mini communtiy will be proud of this one when it gets it's chance to go out and fight with the " big ' boys . I can't wait

Just to note that the car in my sig, a GT1 tube frame Camano was designed, built, and raced by Ted. That car is now owned by another, but a sister car was just re-obtained by Ted from a past customer that passed away. The chassis was left out in the elements for a year and needs a bunch of TLC, but we hope to have that car on the track this season.
Was great to see you Randy and Partsman.

I 'plan' on having the car on the track by spring.
