Wheel and Tire help

Well with a giant screw in my falken azenis 615's it's time for new tires on all 4 corners - but I'm finally going to make the move to a set of wheels and R compound tires.

So I am on tire rack and found some Sport Edition CD 16 x 17.5 wheels with a 40mm offset that is supposed to fit my car (07 S Convertible) and are 19lbs - sounds good, but stop me if not (if someone has some used 16's for sale let me know!)

Now I need some tires and I need to know what size R comp tires will fit without rubbing issues (i can pick another wheel with a different offset if there is an issue).

I've been running 215/40 17's and like the gearing on the car currently so I'm not wanting to go any taller or significantly shorter either on the 16's.

Thanks for the advice....I'm ready to come in first finally!!!!

What is your suspension? Any lowering?

What are you using the tires for?
Autocross? long course 60 seconds or shorter 30 seconds per run?
Any Track or lapping sessions
Any High Perf Driving events?

Assuming stock suspension and
Sport Edition CD 16 x 7.5"
then for tires

Kumho V710
215/40-16 $187 each 19 lbs, 22.6" tire diameter (fits 7.5" or wider rims)
Hoosier A6 or R6
205/45-16 $212 each 19 lbs, 22.8" tire diameter (fits rims 6.5-7.5" wide)

Both are smaller tire diameter than 215/40-17 tires so clearance should be OK with either size.

Thanks for the advice....I actually had already purchased 16 x 7.5 rims and V710's in the 215/40 16 size. I had thought about the 225/50 16 but it's a jump up in tire diameter and I didn't want the gearing any taller than it already is. I hate downshifting to first gear on tight courses - much rather keep it in second the entire time, or even have to shift to third and back down.
