Curious to see how this plays out.

Come on Craig, it wasn't THAT hard to tell...
Since he still didn't say it, it's not "official" in the Fastrack yet, but Ron Bauer posted what can be construed as "official" on the www.scca.org Forums:

For those getting really happy, you have a little bit of a reason, but just be aware, they haven't determined what to bring down yet. Seeing as how that lone Mazdaspeed Protege, with a yet determined good driver ran faster than ALL MINI Cooper S's, may come down.
But, it's better to have close competition than to get tossed to the wolves.

I thought they removed all recommendations to move cars in the October Fastrack?

I'm a current WRX owner who just got on the waiting list to order a MCS and am contemplating options. The Rex is my daily driver and a competitive SM car (the driver still needs work though). Luckily my commute to work is fairly short (and enjoyable) as it is definitely not a road trip car anymore. The thought of running a JCW in BS is appealing. I'd like to move more towards the daily drivability end of the scale on the MINI. A year or two down the road, I want to get a 2nd car to track/AutoX (probably an older 911) and will keep the MINI as the daily driver. So, I'm not sure that I want to go mod happy and be in SM. I am AutoXing mostly for fun. I'm not shooting for Nationals but also don't want to be getting my butt handed to me in SM every time out. I want my cake and eat it too, dang-gummit.
Anyway, anyone heard anything more on the '06 JCW?

OK, I answered my own question by searching a little more diligently (newb!). I missed the announcement in the Dec. Fastrack. It may be fun to play around in BS this year. I may come back with additional questions on wheels and tires as I haven't found a set of Hoosiers or Kumho's that would fit the JCW 17's but I better search around some more first. Thanks.

Wharf, don't bother with B Stock where the car won't be competitive. Your best bet to have a near top car right out of the box would be STX with the JCW now that it's allowed there. Get the car without the LSD, add a Quaife in, get front camber plates, buy wheels and tires, and you'll have a car easily capable of winning STX locally and possibly doing VERY well Nationally.
The factory LSD doesn't compare to a Quaife. However, if you REALLY want to do it on the cheap, get the LSD from the factory and summer tires, and the car is set!
How competitive you want to be certainly depends on the amount of money you want to spend. But, the car doesn't need an aftermarket suspension, and with 40 extra horses, it won't need too much engine work either.
This, IMO, would be your best bet to just buy the car ready to go AND be competitive.

Hi, my name is John and I've been addicted to R-compounds for 2 years now. My pocketbook and I both know that this behavior is self-destructive but I can't seem to shake it.
It would be a lot of fun to play around with the 'ole Suby boys and girls. Not having to trailer the Hoosiers, swap tires, adjust the suspension... would be nice. I could sleep in a bit!
Hmmmm, a lot to think about. Well, I have a couple months to ponder before my name comes up to order. Thanks for the input Brian.
