MINI covering 2005 hatch rust under warranty
Pretty excited.
After adding a few parts and taking care of it as best I can, seeing rust is just a downer.
I noticed a few paint bubbles with rust around the top part of the hatch handle, (above the plate), in early fall, but never got the chance to take it in. I had replaced the handle for a chrome one, and the plate bulbs for LEDs, as well as a bulb holder.
(I'll post pictures.)
I haven't seen any rust around the tail lights, or on the drivers door trim.
Anyway, after my raccoon incident, and while the car was in the service bay, I had asked if they would be able to cover. Well, they took pictures and no reply.
Decided to try my local MINI dealership here in Milwaukee and he took a few pictures and said they would run a report (of some sort) for history. I was a bit nervous as I really have not taken my MINI to the dealership much, but when I did purchase, the previous owner had always gone there for service, (that assisted in the buying decision).
A few days later, the service manager called and said he got the approval from MINI and made an appointment for the first week of February. Not sure if they will repair or just replace the hatch. I think it would be easier to just replace and move everything over.
Regardless, I'm excited that it'll be covered.

Yea, its for 2005+ MY. For pre 2005 it was 6 years I believe. Have a good body shop and quote and have it done, make sure they worked on BMWs or MINIs.
If its really bad they just replace the whole panel. R50 R53 41357035355 & 41357035356

Hopefully is not that bad, pull the tailights out and inspect them or have the body shop do it. Also check above the rear trunk grip also and pull the trunk grip off and inspect.

Contact your local MINI dealership and they can run your VIN and make a claim, they will need to see the car and take pics. 2005+ was when they extended the rust warranty.
Have them check the door sill also.

Ughhh! Not good to hear. Is there anything that I can do, like to seal MINI's horrible foam pieces from letting water in? Like apply some form of silicone that can seal like a gasket to prevent water from running in??

I have a new piece of foam and a bunch of related hardware on the way here. I'm not sure if it was replaced when they were swapping everything from one hatch to another. My plan is to get all of the rust out (a small patch has started moving onto the body too though) and just coat the area in POR-15. It'll be hidden behind the handle, so I don't really care what it looks like.

Just picked up the MINI and car looks great. The side was redone and the surface rust under the weather strilling on door sill repaired. They also replaced the MINI Cooper S door sill, which looks great new!!
I saw the invoice with the price, and it ended up being to the tune of just over $1400.
Love warranties !!
They also fixed a paint chip that was near the gas cap.

On the boot, above the license plate is a horizontal piece (body colored or chrome) that contains the two lights for the licence plate, and the grab-button-release to open the boot.
That entire section is sold as a unit in the $90-120 USD range.
Rust often occurs along the top edge between it and the rear MINI logo badge

Just an update on the rust on the trunk/taillight issues you can see here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ht-rust-3.html
This MINI owner is working on that area and showing a step by step fix.
