Need Help With OBDII Code
I have a 2007 Mini Cooper S with 189,000 km (117,000 miles). I just replaced a bad exhaust valve. Now I'm getting an OBDII code P1216. (I'm only using a low cost scan tool several years old). The car will start, idle and run okay at low power. If I accelerate hard it bogs down.
I have searched the Internet but can't find anything on this code.
Is there anyone who can has see this code before.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I did eventually find that listed there and in one other place however it doesn't help much. What do they define "fuel pump emergency operation" as? I assume they are referring to the HPFP but could be the electric one too. What triggers that code (P1216)? Fuel rail low pressure perhaps? Electric fuel pump low discharge pressure? Or is there another item which causes the code?

[QUOTE=Systemlord;4206049]Its the Pedal Position Sensor, if the value is off (too high) that could cause the ECU to back off to prevent you from accelerating into a dangerous situation.[/
Thanks for the help. If it is the Pedal Position Sensor. Is there a check/reset/calibration that I can try? Or do I need some kind of special tool ?

Try to unplug and replug it back in otherwise it might just be a bad pedal sensor.

So I'm still searching for more information on P1216. I downloaded a PDF titled "Test Plan for BMW Service".
It shows P1216 as:
-Fault Description: Fuel Pump Emergency Operation
-Fault Code Description: Fuel Pump: Limp-Home Mode
-Diagnostic function monitors the electric fuel pump.
-The fault is recognized when the electric fuel pump runs in its emergency default mode. Potential problem source(s) - Mechanical Fault.
-This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory if remains present for more than 0.4 sec.
-Possible Causes: Mechanical Fault
-Repair Procedure: Carry out system analysis.
I am away from home and have no access to the car but am anxious to have a repair plan in place.
The above information is great but does not specify what mechanical the faults might be to trigger this code???
What does limp home mode do exactly? Does the fuel pump run at slower speed? less discharge pressure? .......
How do I clear the limp-home mode?
Could it be as simple as a bad fuel filter?
Thank-you in advance for the advice.

Found this here when I Google "what causes Fuel Pump Emergency Operation". It could be the fuel pump or an electrical problem (relay) or both. It definitely sounds like a fuel delivery issue do to the pumps or electronic throttle sensor. Have the pumps, pedal sensor and the throttle body adaptation checked out.
I believe the ECU is cutting the fuel pump because it sees an issue with either the throttle position sensor, the throttle body and or a relay issue.

Code 1216
Thank you for the reply. Yeah honestly don't know if it was refurbished or not said it was supposed to be new. It was 200 bucks from amazon 1 of their carriers. It did hard start at 1st then started up but it would still hard start at a half a tank or less so kept it full. Changed the fuel filter thinking that cause that was original is my guess with 116k on it. I know the hpfp did put out a 10 year 120k warranty on it. But my car was made in june of 09 so when does manufacturer warranty start date of buy ir date of make. So confusing. It just stinks cause after hpfp had to do thermostat now water pump also changed a ton of sensors thinking that. Going to test fuel pressure today. The weird thing is my hpfp is reading the right pressure on my obd reader so super confused and to cheap to take it in like doing this stuff myself cause mini will ding you hard at dealership

Thanks!!
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I called mini of Madison. Live in Wisconsin. Gave them my vintage number and the warranty expired a few months ago unfortunately I got a 09 min S r56 that was made in june of 09 so unfortunately it passed😭😭. I'm looking at used pumps right now unfortunately this happened at a bad time for me to where I can't afford a brand new 1. The aftermarket 1s are junk that is what I got and took 15 tries to get it started. Got it running but was still cold starting and ended up throwing the 2880 hpfp code. Also getting miss fire codes to high at the rail codes and it gies into limp mode. Tested lower fuel pump but didn't have the exact fitting for it so it was leaking gas but pressure did go over 70 psi so figure that is good. But if you know anyone with a used pump for sale let me know trying to buy in the next day such a hassle Lol. But again thank you for the reply love this thread I learn a lot a people really help !!
