First time Mini Caretaker - 2005 Convertible
Hi all,
I just learned that I am soon going to be the caretaker of a 2005 Mini Convertible (with a CVT trans) if all goes well. GF's daughter may be buying one, which means I'd better start learning about them a bit.
Drove the car today (my first Mini experience) and I really enjoyed it. I've been a Miata guy for years, so I can appreciate cars that are small and fun.
Welp, that's my intro. Gonna poke around on here and learn as much as I can before I start asking dumb questions.

Hello,
Have an r52 myself also,. with the CVT you have to be careful as they tend to have allot of problems and the fluid flush will help extend the life. There was ongoing issue with these.

Hey all, thank you for the warm welcome!
ECST, yes the CVT has me a little worried. Luckily this car comes with a pile of service records and I reckon the fluid was flushed a few times already. I'll plan on doing one as soon as possible.
On that topic.... The nearest MINI dealer is 3 hours away. In this particular predicament, is this something most any shop can do, given the proper fluids, or is this a "their house only" thing?

Welcome, ok then if you have the service records that helps and the flushes helps with the life of the cvt.
All the CVT oil change info here :

You can DIY it yourself or take it to a Euro car shop and show them is thread. Make sure they worked n BMWs and MINIs before then you should be fine,.
If you need anything eles let me know,. I am way over an hour from a dealership since I owned MINIs since 2004 , so I know about the distance thing.
