engine rebuild time
Hi !
My piston of cylinder 4 just broke last month, so I try to remove the head to go see the real damage. After removing the oil pan , I found a part of the cyl4 piston and some parts of ring. With a inspection cam we don t really see the real condition of the engine so now I m at the point to remove the head and here is my question.
When we change the cam chain , there is tools to lock the cam and crank in there position, but now because I may need to turn the engine while I remove the piston , I was believing there is another way to find the good timing. So I try to find marks and did not find any. What is the proper way to remove the head to remove the pistons or see the damage?
Also I found a small parts of plastic in the bottom of the oil pan but could not see the origine. I may post a picture tomorow if needs. The problem is I don t see any plastic parts in the bottom of the engine.
Thank you very much
Daoust

The small plastic parts was a parts of the timining chain guide rail.
All sleeve are like new , no damage. The part of the piston came from the bottom of piston cyl 4 so it did not go near the combustion chamber. Now it s time to order the pistons. I belive I will go with cp 10.5cr std bore. Who try the 9.5crand why?
Thank you

You don't need to worry about the timing tools until you put it back together. Start with the Bentley manual to get torque / sequence info, and TTY bolt ID. Rod / piston selection depends on what your usage is going to be. Mild mods or daily driver can get by with OEM CR. To minimize the possibility of this happening again, avoid OEM rods and pistons. Just ensure the set you choose is compatible --- not all rods work with all pistons, and there's a bunch to choose from.

How to know if cp piston 10.5cr fit stock rod? I know changing both rod and piston is the best but I m not gonna make a 270whp engine. What I have so far is really good for my daily car.
Battle dna stage2
Jcw turbo
Jcw intake
Bigger FMIC
3in down pipe
Ported exh manifold
Ported turbo
.
If I will add anything else, it will be water meth and jcw exhaust.

Whats does the piston look like ? Did you have timing chain issues before ?

Just a late update.
So finally I got a broken piston. It broke just over the wirst pin . I will try to put picture later of that broken piston. Now the engine is rebuild with supertech piston, total seal ring and supertech rod. Nice product. Revolution motor work told me the piston are made by mahle
