When I picked up my 79 I had 3 problems in the first 50 miles trying to get it home
I found myself muttering "why did I buy this crate?"
Henceforth is has been known as OC ... da orange crate
People who think you can't drive a Mini long distances are just wrong.
you can drive 'long' distances in a Mini .... once you know the quirks of your's .... but it may NOT be the best idea to try it immediately on delivery ....
in addition to my experience I know of a buyer who got half way home when the rear subframe of his 'rust free classic' snapped in half after hitting a bump in the road! He was still a couple of states away as I recall ..... I got mine in FL and needed to get it to Norfolk. I originally planned to drive it as the seller assured me the car would make it ... I'd be deaf (loud exhaust) and sore (stiff suspension) but the car would make it. I decided to use the Auto-Train leaving me 1 hour drive on the FL side and about 2 hours on the VA side. Those legs became white knuckle exercises with each taking twice as long as expected when I quickly discovered the car was NOT ready for Interstate highways..... That was a long time ago but the memories are strong ....
