Official Chili Red Owners Club
#2953
I posted this in "general" section, maybe I'll have better luck here:
Trying to get back into a MINI after a 2 year hiatus.. Saw an ad for a Chili Red R52 with tan/black interior. The MINI in question is a JCW that has been vinyl wrapped in matte black. For this reason its very difficult for me to visualize Chili Red on tan/black, which doesn't seem like an obvious color scheme.
Can anyone post a couple photos? I've done the Google image search with no joy.
I think I'm going to pull the trigger. Its an '05 JCW chrome package, driving lights, with EVERY option (Nav), 79k miles for $7500. Looks to be in good shape, no rust, new tires.
I've never owned a cabrio version, just an '03 R50, '04R 53, and '06 R53. Only two more years and I have a Bingo! I've had 2 Indi Blues and (black interior and that god awful two toned blue/black) and electric blue and english leather black.
Normally I wouldn't care too much, but a convertible is much more out in the open.

Nice find and welcome back, you've got member number #887
I'm back! Been Miniless for over 10 years. Was recently shopping for an E46 to replace a 996 C4S I just sold. Ran across this Mini while searching and just had to have it. 2004, 160,000 miles full JCW 40th Anniversary, autographed by the factory. Sunroof delete, cruise control, factory 18 inch wheels. Was garage kept and serviced. Feel like I stole it. The little old lady I bought it from said " I bought it because it was cute!" lol. OMG seriously I'm like on the way across the country to get it right now, I told her. Don't let anyone else look at it I said! Needs a few small things fixed including the windshield (don't all Mini's need a windshield?), full service, fluids and a good detail. I'm very happy, excited and it's good to be back. What do you all think? #225 of 1000

Add me to the list! I just drove my 05 JCW R52 from New Mexico to its new home in Iowa. It was in pretty rough shape, the previous owner was a huge slob and had some ugly body wrap. After I got home I realized the rocket surgeon installed a hood ornament at some point and covered it up with an extra JCW badge just above the scoop. I'll be on the lookout for a used Chili Red hood, but in the meantime I need some advice.
I bondo-ed the hole and used touch up paint to make it look passable from 8'. The touchup paint is too dark, so its not ideal. I could do 3 things:
1) 14" white center stripe
2) MC40 decals. I've always liked the MC40 edition, but its a little louder than I'd like. I would do hood decals, no door numbers.
3) Put the JCW badge back, but I think it looks a little tacky.
Here's a before/after (sorry, I didn't take closeups of the hole.

Where did you get the Touch-Up paint?
Matching older paint is more like an art-form then a science the Chili Red paint does fade over time and matching it can take a little time.
You might want to just simply try adding just a MINI dab of White (roof color) to a glob of Chili Red, then repaint your patch.
Last resort is having a favorite shop respray the entire bonnet.
Motor on!

I ended up ordering some MC40 decals. My car isn't a real MC40, but I dont really care. The hood has a crudely filled hole in the hood, so I thought the best course of action was to cover it with a center stripe or Monte Carlo vinyl.
I bought more of an original 60's repro (16" version) and not MINI's anniversary logo and the black 33 EJB plate sticker.
Way sells the authentic MC40 decals if anyone's looking, but I'm not a fan of MINI's take on the logo.

No numbers on doors for now. Also ordered the magnetic white bonnet stripes.. might be too much, but at $30 and temporary I'll give them a try.

The door numbers are magnetic (makes it easy to put on and take off as needed/wanted)
For touch up paint, I have had a lot of luck from here:
