Yeps , its on there. They snap on(pretty hard) and should pivot around the ball but not come off with force and no play. The boot on the cable is torn, thats all.

I've just developed a very difficult to engage shifter. Sometimes it just slides right into a gear and other times it feels as if there is something blocking the shifter from going into a gear. I can get it into gear but I've got to really force it. It is bad enough where my wife can't drive it right now. It is always 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears - all forward never back. Are there rebuild kits for this or is there adjustments to remedy this? Any help appreciated - whether parts identification or adjustment directions.

The Cooper S/ JCW take those two cables. 25117594646 & 25112753808
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...spd-trans.html
Make sure the cable boot have not let in rust from moisture or something else binding them. Or the shift unit on top. I unpluged my cables up front and made sure they move freely and then greased the pivot points on the exposed 23007602720 Shift Unit Set.
That should narrow it down on which is causing the binding.
