17x8 et45 Will They Fit?
Advanti DST Storm S1 17
I have a 2003 Mini Cooper S btw.
I am really interested in these wheels. They offer 17x7 et45 which is really close to OEM R90s I have.
BUT I want the wider wheel and more aggressive offset.
I used wheel-size.com/calc and it says that with 215/45r17 tires on the Advanti DST, the wheels will stick out 16mm further. But that the wheels will be 10mm closer to suspension components. Is it alright?
I also plan on getting lowering springs. Tein S tech springs which claim a 38mm drop.
people.say there's no bounce. So I was thinking about those. Any comments on that?
thank you
I decided on 17x7 et35 on those same wheels! Thank you!

Anytime you lower suspension you have much less clearance and with a wide wheel and tire combo vs OEM wheel and tire you may have rubbing issues. 17x7 is safer with lowering, if you keep the 17x8" then a lower profile tire size is another option however there may be a limited selection.
hard to say if 10mm closer to inner suspension will be a problem, you'd have to do a fitment check. But since the wheel is listed for your MINI on tirerack they have done the fitment check and found it to be OK. 16mm poking out is not too bad but aggressive.
For 17x8" et45 wheel the following tire sizes are possible-
205/40-17 fits wheels 7-8" wide, 23.5" tire diameter
205/45-17 OEM size
215/40-17 fits wheels 7-8.5" wide, 23.9" tire diameter
215/45-17 fits wheels 7-8" wide, 24.5" tire diameter
235/40-17 fits wheels 8-9.5" wide, 24.5" tire diameter
235/40-17 is slightly taller than OEM but close, tire selection is not much. Tire shoulder width is wider than OEM so clearance for lowering suspension is very tight and likely will rub on wheel arch plastic. Using lowering springs will not allow you to adjust ride height so your only way to get clearance is to increase front and rear negative camber by adding front adjustable camber plates or rear lower adjustable control arms or using tire sizes that are 24" or less. If you use a fully adjustable coilover set then you can lower the ride height just enough to clear the tires. But cost is higher for coilovers, labor to install is about the same as with lowering springs. Be aware that using lowering springs and OEM shocks tends to ride harshly and wear the shocks out faster, are you using OEM original 2003 shocks or have you replaced them? If you need to replace them then you can choose aftermarket shocks that match your lowering springs.

the springs rates for the lowering springs I thought of getting are:
- Front spring rate: 3.8 kilogram/millimeter (212 pound/inch)
- Rear spring rate: 2.5 kilogram/millimeter (162 pound/inch)
But if I play it safe. I will go for 17x7 et35 which will have a 13mm poke. Which is good. I like that. And it will clear suspension too. I will run 205/45r17 for the square sidewall
I will check all clearance values to see if the 8 inch wheels can fit
thank you

I would assume they are.
So how much would it be for a set of shocks?

Among the many wheels I have for my 2003, R53, is a set of 16x8, +42 Volks. The wheel, with no tire mounted clears the strut by 2 or 3mm, at most. So, I will say that a 17x8, +45 will not clear without a spacer. I used either 205/50/16 or 215/45/16 with them and no spacer, without problems. though I understand manufacturers typically recommend a minimum of 5 mm clearance.

In the case of the OP, 2003 MCS hatchback doesn't have wheel arch clearance in the front or back and has a lower rear trailing arm that limits offset for some wheels. JCW front brakes won't fit smaller diameter wheels so often 17" are used.
