Rmw 250 "dominator"
Picked up this RMW dominator cam, got it installed over the weekend. Took it out to test drive it and break the cam in for a day before a tune. Take the valve cover off and look at how close the rollers are from the edge of the cam....and piece of the cam chipped off...very disappointed in something I paid 500$ for from WMW.
Those chips were not there when cam was installed
Number 1 cylinder wore through the spark plug tube, and rollers are almost at the very edge of the lobe..
Assembled with Lucas assembly lube and broken in at 2k for 20 mins then light duty driving for 2 hours...this doesn't make sense

The OP's photo on the worn thru spark plug tube piqued my interest. So too is where you can see the rough casting as well as how close the rollers running close to the edge on some cam lobes.
I found this old thread with some interesting discussion on the more subtle aspects of cams.

I just feel that I should have paid 150$ for a paperweight instead of how much I did.
I'm not one to go back and forth with a company about this and that for weeks on end over emails to get the same result as most companies, ultimately stop answering my emails.
The way I see it, i wasted alot of money, now I have a cool paperweight. On to the next company and hope I dont get a p.o.s. again

The spark plug tube problem is a known issue with some Cams, and you should have been forewarned if this is one of them. (Which it obviously is)
As far as the other issues, Newman did have a bad batch or two a while ago, I thought they had all been gone through already.
I've been happy with my Thmpr Cam, (his, not the NS) it's the only one that's even come close to working with my problem ECU.

Unless things have changed RMW & WMW don't normally see eye to eye so how did you buy a RMW cam from WMW unless it was used... If WMW imported it themselves than RMW had nothing to do with it. Granted maybe you talked WMW into buying it from RMW which sounds unlikely from their past, unless you had WMW do the install? He might would do it then...

WMW is selling CNC ported Revolution Mini Works head as of today.

It gave me pause to wonder RMW - which is Revolution Motor Works. Very interesting.

I am not seeing the RMW head on the WMW page... am I missing something?

I installed this cam, as purchased directly from Jan, and it did require tube denting. Since I had heard of this issue (re. installing any high lift cams in an R53), I checked clearances during install. 2nd pic is 'dented'. Honestly don't recall if Jan even mentioned this, but I do agree it should be made clear. OTOH I suppose it could be said that if the installer doesn't hand rotate the cam and verify all clearances are good then shame on the installer.

Just curious what the minimum clearance should be?

Should have done a little more research. I have the RMW Dominator cam, and I follow MOD mini, so I knew I needed to take a ball pin hammer to the tubes for clearance. The cam is $360, not $500. Sorry this happened, but that’s why these boards and YouTube are your friend.
