I wouldn't call these a knockoff. They were designed specifically for the fob, not jack legged. I bought a couple of the original V1's and have experienced no problems with them since I started using them about a year and a half ago. Cost me 10 bucks for the pair with a discount code.
So glad I stumbled across this thread. I just ordered a pair of revision 3 covers in white to match my Silver White MINI we're picking up on Monday. I also added a MINI logo which looked very sharp on the preview.
Its good you didn't sand it because for the plastic ones, the color, i believe, is just a coating.
If these are 3D-printed, then the material used is color-constant throughout. I believe that ABS is the most common material in this scenario. I don't know how well it reacts to sanding though as I have never attempted to do so.
My V3 in yesterday, its a lot rougher texture than I was expecting. The fit is really good and the smaller size if great.
I ordered an Orange just like that, and a black one.
Go to love 3-D printers!!
Not sure why they come rough, watched my dentist make my crown with a 3-D printer, and it came out perfectly smooth!!!
Actually it was a CNC Milling machine using 3-D imaging.
BTW - I've had mine for over a year and use the Orange one daily. It shows only minor minor changes, maybe it's a little bit smoother but still feels great. And has picked up a bit of dirt

Does anyone know if throwing one of these bad boys on your key voids any warranty on the key? If not, I think I'm gonna have to grab two. Hubby and I just bought our second MINI and my keychain is now impossible to put in a pocket.
I just ordered one of these for my fob. I'll post pics when I have it installed. Really glad someone came up with the idea to change this out, as I do feel the key is too large.
