EML Light triggered P1492 2006 R52 Cooper S

I cannot find anything on P1492 but my 2006 Mini Cooper S with 165K miles just threw the code during a higher RPM pull and it felt like it was surging a bit, I have replaced plugs, and coil pack less than 25000 miles ago in March of 2015. The EML light turned off after a restart and little bit time.

Anyone have thoughts? Anyone know what the code means?

It is a battery overtemp code. Your charging system exceeded it parameters. It could be a voltage regulation issue, as the code suggests. The voltage regulator missed a beat!
I am guessing extreme cold could make it glitch, but you need to check to make sure your battery is not showing more than about 14.4 Volts with engine running.

Thanks! Battery is over 4 years old (just looked at the date), So what am I looking at best case scenario, just a glitch due to the cold? Possibly a new Battery, Worst case scenario I am looking at a new Voltage Regulator?

alternator, but change the battery before you do that. It is vitally important to use a high end battery, as they stabilize the voltage. When running at idle, the cars power from the battery/charging system should be 14 to 14.2 volts. It is important, as fluctuating voltages will play havoc on your ecm and could cause many "electrical issues" and codes!

Just replaced the battery, problem has not repeated at all yet. Thank you very much, where did you find the information on the error code btw? I couldn't find anything related to the code on a Generation 1 Cooper S anywhere? The car had trouble starting this morning too but did crank over so I am thinking it was entirely battery related.

Hi Hardrivn,
I Have an Autel Maxi Pro System diagnostic and analysis system. It is a bit too expensive for private use. I sell Mini and other cars and needed something good to diagnose tricky issues. I had seen that code in the past.
This is what I have:

Keep that Mini Alive! 06 Mini S is the best year and will go forever, if taken care of, with regular oil/filter changes and maintenance!
Post a pic of your ride!
Here is Mine:

Yeah, I am a small time dealer. Providing Mini Coopers and other inexpensive cars and 4X4s.

It's actually for sale

My wife just upgraded to a 2011 328i Xdrive So her mini is up for sale. The car has been great to us for the past 13 years and it feels great still. I am a stickler about maintenance and the car shows it. That being said I mistakenly offered a friends and family discount for a private sale and probably underpriced the car because I have 3 people that I know personally lined up to buy the car in less than a day. What would you have asked for this car?

2006 Red with white roof and stripes Mini is going up for Sale, if anyone wants a very well cared for 160K Mile 2006 Mini Cooper S with extensive service records, Newer Tires, Brakes Discs and pads, wheel bearings all with less than 5000 miles on them, clutch, with around 15000 miles on it. I will be selling at Auction and expect to get $3500-4500 based on the extensive service history and overall condition. But friends and family can get it for $3000.
Everything works great on the car
Options beyond standard: Heated seats, Aftermarket Kenwood KDC-BT762HD HD Radio with bluetooth hands free, mic installed on steering column for phone calls and A2DP

With the purchase of the 328xi I negotiated that they would do a full detail of the car if they were selling it, and they did a spectacular job even touching up the paint and filling in the chips.

Love your blue btw. If I didn't have the garages full with a 2002 M5, 2005 E46 ZHP Convertible, 2012 Nissan Titan, 4 motorcycles, and now a red 328ix, we would have kept it another 100K miles. it still pulls smooth and drives great.

PPS, she only upgraded because we found a unicorn, Red, 328ix Stick shift, with sport seats, ivory leather. Seriously how many men order red, and how many women order a stick shift? and who gets the lower engine 328 (without HP Fuel line issues of the turbo) and then slaps the sport, tech, but not iDrive on it. Rare bird indeed. Now if only it was a Wagon I would be in heaven
