Does anyone know if MINI sells just the set screws for the JCW tips? I looked at the parts sites and don't see them listed separately. Or have any of you come up with an alternate way of affixing the tips to the pipe? I destroyed mine while getting the tips off the old exhaust.
gkp, from your pics it looks like the threaded insert is missing because of the hexagonal hole and it looks like the insert is rusted to the set screw. Looking at pics of new JCW tips, the hole is round and the threaded insert looks to to be completely recessed.
Do you have any more pics of the tip and are there still threads in it?
Yep it has a set screw and a bonded type nut insert. I dont have one in stock to check but that what it looks like stock. The screw is not available on its own.

The tip itself is not threaded. The threaded insert snapped into the hexagonal hole and the set screw (really a bolt) screwed into that. Leave it to MINI to reinvent the wheel.
looking at the first picture you posted it looks as if you could get stainless steel nut to fit the cavity completely, bond it in place, then put a stainless steel bolt/screw through the threaded portion and should perform/act like the original.

Something along those lines is Plan B. I was hoping the original hardware was available as a cleaner solution.

Unfortunately Mini will have you buy new tips to get the new hardware. By you installing stainless steel inserts and bolt it will last longer than the last implementation.

My set screw is pretty corroded, but it looks to be an M6x1.0 and it is 20mm long. The hex opening is exactly 3/8" wide which translates to 9.525mm so I'm going to repair mine with an M6 half hex rivet nut, a 25mm stainless flanged button head screw which will be filed down a bit, and some lock tite.

Update: Success! The M6 half hex rivet nut is a perfect fit. For the screw use an M6x25mm. It will be a little long so you can either grind it down to ~22-23mm or space it out with a flat washer and lock washer combo.
if anyone can find an M6x20mm set screw that would work even better.
