"?" Regarding Rule #5
Rule #5 in the Site Guidelines states:
So my question is... if I can LEGALLY drive my MINI at 130+ MPH anytime I want (Traffic/Weather Permitting) then how is it that every post pertaining to "Top Speed" is either closed or removed? I understand the "Nature" of the rule, but as it is currently written I haven't seen a single closed or deleted post that would (for me) be in violation of Rule 5
5. LEGAL
Posts relating to street racing, excessive speeding, or violations of other laws are prohibited. If you want to race, take it to a legal venue.

If you can indeed legally drive your MINI at such speeds, be it on a track or on the Autobahn, then by the rules, you can post. The rule pertains to 'illegal' speeding on public roads, street racing, etc. If it's indeed legal where you live, it's okay. Problems that sometimes occur when someone does post their top end on a permitted road, it sometimes gets followed up by others posting theirs where it's unfortunately not allowed, and that often results in the thread being edited or shut down.
If you intend to make a speed-related post, make sure to note that you did so on a road where it's permitted.

I'm not following you. Are you saying that just because 1% or so of NAM members live in places where they can legally drive 100+ mph, that all the posts about asshats doing 75 through residential neighborhoods in the U.S. should be allowed to stand?
If your posts are being deleted, even if you specify in them that you're not breaking any laws by driving as you do, then that would be a legitimate beef.
However, if your posts are in threads with lots of rule-breaking posts, then yes, those threads are going to get yanked.

First of all, thanks for moving this I hadn't noticed this forum (Still kinda new )
And yes, I've had posts "Disappear" within threads regarding Top Speeds. While I don't disagree with the Rule, the way it's written leaves me and my 1% in a tough spot. We're not breaking any laws, yet we're dissuaded from discussing anything over 75mph because the thread will get locked
Bear with me here because I swear I'm not trying to be a PITA or get anything started, I just think that the problem of "asshats doing 75 through residential neighborhoods in the U.S." could be addressed without "Censoring" (And I use the term LOOSELY) of posts
I'm a member of a couple of other forums (UK/Europe based mostly) and the issue of excessive speed is usually dealt with differently. When someone posts a thread saying they did did something unsafe (###kph through town, etc.) then most members (Especially the veterans) don't hesitate to jump on them. It's usually not long before they either tone it down or move elsewhere.
Sorry, it's time to go home, although with traffic around Frankfurt I'll be lucky to hit 60 mph Thanks for taking the time with this and once again, I'm not trying to start something, just a bit "confused" with the enforcement.
Later,
Drill

There are obviously members that don't live in North America. However, in terms of establishing site policy, the generally accepted rule of law within North America will be the guide.
As greatbear said, we have had discussions in the past where people have commented on the MINI's high speed capability while on roads in Europe. Those discussions have been permitted because (1) the speeds weren't extra-legal and 2) other road users are accustomed to travelling at those same speeds in a legal and orderly fashion. Inevitably though people start posting to those threads about speeds they reached here in North America on public roads or on their private backyard super sekrit test track. At that point the threads were locked.
EDIT: drill just saw your second post
I think the difference in philosophy here is a result of different demographics. On your European forums the majority of members probably have experience driving those speeds legally, so the random person discussing reckless behavior/speed is an exception. Here on NAM 90+% of our members would be breaking the law if they travel at those same speeds, so keeping discussions limited to areas where they are legal is more difficult, since people do want to jump in and share. Thus, it would really be more of a moderation headache on this forum to try to "guide" the discussion back.

Autobahn is fun.
I did hit 168mph (270kmph) in a rental Porsche 911 in Germany about 2 1/2 years ago. It took until the second day of the rental to find a stretch of autobahn with no traffic and a wide open straight stretch...

Notice the death grip. This was a little slower at 256kmph!
So now is this post going to be locked???
