Growling noise at 3000 RPM = new Getrag 6spd...
I just picked up my 2006 MCS JCW today, with a new Getrag 6-spd. It had been making a "growling" noise at around 3000 RPM in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears (and probably higher, but I couldn't hear it over road noise). The car only has about 8000 miles on it (1 year old), but I do drive about 90% city streets, and tend to drive aggressively when the roads aren't too crowded...
Anyway, just an FYI if anyone else has similar issues. The first time I took it to the dealer for the noise, they flushed the transmission fluid (apparently there's a service bulletin out right now that exactly describes the noise/issue I was having), but that didn't fix it in my case. If anyone else has these types of noises, get it fixed before the warranty runs out -- my dealer said it's usually a $4500 repair... youch.

I have the same car, same year (10,900 miles)....what is a $4500 repair? A new tranny? I had a low speed moaning sound coming from the LSD when doing tight turns in the parking lot. Replacing the thin tranny fluid with the older, thicker MTF94 fixed it. Release bearing was also replaced, but this only made noise when depressing the clutch.
