Spal fan
Hello,
I know it is been a long time since these posts, but I need your help.
I am about to buy va32-a101-62a from a local store here in Greece,
and my original part is va62-a100-62a.
Is it the corrent item to buy?
I reed in the specs of SPAL, http://www.spalusa.com/store/main.as...&item=30103018 but the CMF values are much lower than the 250cmf you posted.
Did you mean the m3/h values?
How did it work with this fan after all this time?

My PS fan started howling a while back so I ordered a new one. I decided to dissect the old one to see what is up with the bearings. The unit is definitely not made to be serviced. I had to drill holes around the fan shaft to get the press-fit fan off. Lots of prying/gouging was required to get the main housing separated. Here are the basic parts:
Most of the parts are fairly robust but they skimped on the bearings. Not very large. This is the bearing for the back of the motor.
A shame since the rest of the motor is in pretty good shape, including the brushes. Neither bearing felt particularly rough but they sure did howl when the fan operated.
The bearing for the fan end of the motor is pressed into the housing. Unfortunately, there is no way to lubricate either bearing without disassembly.

Rebuild your own PS pump and wrap exhaust manifold
I'd like to try to revive this thread a bit. Has anyone successfully and personally rebuilt the motor end of their PS pump, such as found/installed new brushes, cleaned up the commutator, installed or lubed bearings/bushings? If so, please post some info. If brushes and bearings are available, or even brushes that are a bit too large (cut them down to fit) I'd like to consider proactively pulling my pump >100K miles and doing this.
Second question, has anyone wrapped their stock exhaust manifold while the manifold is still in the car, to reduce the heat load on the PS pump? Looking for details please, thanks YD
