R56 runing issues.

we have had a brand new car in the shop for the past couple of weeks trying to diagnose a really bad misfire at 2k rpms. the car came off truck like that.

well it turned out to be the metal ring inside the transmission where the crank sensor gets the signal from. it has 52 teeth(i think thats what we counted) and a couple of them were twisted, therefor the crank signal was being interrupted. we tried to bend them back into place but never quite made them perfect and there was always a small mis. so we had to order a new ring.

just a heads up in case you have this issue, you can have the technician take a look at the ring to check for damages.

Thanks for that info....and sorry that happened to you. I always love it when the problem is clearly identified rather than floating around in the ether as a mystery. They'll hopefully fix you up and you'll be good to go.

actually the car is not mine. is a new unit that came off the truck like that, not sold either.
i'm a mini tech so thats how i know about the issue. i'm not the one working on the car but i have followed the progress with this vehicle from the neighbor 2 bays down from me.

the part should be in on monday and hopefully he can get the car back together. i got my own tranny to do on an R56; 3rd gear is making a whine noise when in low rpms(around 2200) so i'm working on that one now.

cars acts like its starving for fuel. After running to 10-20 minutes starts to sputter and eventually stalls. The car you had i know its been a while. did it idle or or did it run like crap @ idle. what area are you in.

if you can chim in and rem any specficis besides what you found. You said the relector ring. Did you have to drop the trans or were able to visually look @ it. we did a smoke test swapped out different sensors
no change.
