Engine Sputter/Cutoff

I've only had this problem twice and seems kind of weird. Both times running errands. During the errands, after the car is good and warmed up from a couple of stops, I start it up and it doesn't seem to know what rpm to idle at. Instead of idling at 700-800 rpm it drops to 3-4 and the gauge widly flutters. You can give it some gas and it has plenty of power and drives normally, it just won't idle correctly. So I pull off and everything is fine, good acceleration etc, then coming to a stop I put it in neutral and the tach drops to 3-400 rpm and wavers around, once it went all the way to zero and cut off. Thirty minutes later after another stop on my errands, I get in the car, start it up and it goes right to 7-800 rpm and behaves perfect. No hint of a problem. I have a MC manual with 1500 miles on it.

This happened once about three weeks ago and then again today, every other time car drives perfectly. Both were very isolated occurences and thirty minutes later the car drove and idled just fine. I started to post this in the CEL/vehicle sputtering problem thread, but oddly enough the check engine light never came on on either of these occurences and has never come on.

Anyone else experience this sort of thing, have an idea of what is going on. I took the car out again this afternoon just to see and it again drove perfect, idled just where you'd expect and no hint of a problem.
