Sun Shade Issue?

Hi,
I picked up my MC last friday and my only real complaint is that the sun shades for the sunroof slide open on there own and will not stay put.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,
chris

Ok,
I will take that as a no.

I will get the dealer to look at it.

Thanks,
Chris

I've had my MCS for 3 weeks and haven't experienced any issues with the sun shades.

My Mini has exhibited this since day 1. I asked my MA about it. She said it was not normal, but I haven't had a chance to take it back to the dealer yet.

Hope to do so soon.

Thanks!!!

On a side note, those collapsible sun shades
like these: http://www.topoftheline.com/axius-ma...-sunshade.html

will pop into the sunroof area and really cut down on the heat.
ymmv.....

I really like the way that the front and back sun shade roll into the center area but the little holes can be a bit annoying as they don't really block ALL the sun while driving. I will say that I thought they would let more sun in than they actually do.

The optional top for this feature is cloth! I get all the sun I want, and I can also move the top back about one third for more wind noise than I care for!

I've had my MC about a month and have the same issue. I'd be interested to know if they can fix it.

I had looked at those, but aren't they too big? The spaces are only about 16x26, right? I'd really like it if those will fit...tks!

they do fit, they will pop in above the screen and below the sunroof itself. i dont think you can use the screen while they are in, though.

Thanks...I may order, then....except, I wish you could use the screen, too, just so they'd be less noticeable...

Mine are the opposite. They are pretty hard to slide open and closed.

Someone else posted these on another sunroof post:

http://www.stratmosphere.com/mini_interior.htm. They have ones that fit 2007 models.

I haven't tried them, but I'm interested. Anyone tried these?

well,
i picked up my mini today, not fixed.
they are ordering a new shade and then they will se if they can do anything.
(they took mine apart, removed the lube, tightened the tabs and called saying it was fixed, only to discover that it wasnt when they checked it an hour later.)

kinda funny but now it doesnt stay in place at all....

That's what I was afraid of....they "fix" it and it's worse.

I looked at the stratosphere website (expen-sive) and at Wal-Mart. I ended up with the soft metallic shade, soft enough to roll instead of fold. Since I have checkered mirrors, I put b&w check contact paper on the non-metallic side, cut 2 to fit the front and back (same size). For less than $4, I have a checkered interior roof/solid metallic shade that I can roll up and put under the seat. No, it's not the perfect solution, but serves the purpose & matches my car for less than a visit to Starbucks!

How far does yours open? Mine goes back maybe 3 inches and then stays put.

I figure I'll just deal with that...it's not like the shade blocks that much light anyways.

Hi, all!

I usually post in the Classics Forum since I have a '73 Mini. My wife likes the car so much that we bought a MC for her from Brian Harris MINI in Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday. It has the same sunshade issue. Rolls back about 6" during driving. The MA said that they have had lots of complaints on the issue. He also said that there is a service advisory, but no official repair procedure or retrofit kit. The dealer is 3 hours away and I would rather not take it back unless they can guarantee that it will be fixed the first time.

It does not bother the missus, but it drives me bonkers.
